Tucker Beathard To Headline In Europe

Tucker Beathard has announced that he will return for a second time this year to play a string of headlining dates in the UK and Ireland. Beathard will begin his headlining stint on 12/3 in Dublin, IE and will continue to London, UK (12/4) as well as Glasgow, UK (12/5).

·       Tickets will go on-sale starting 8/31.

·       Beathard said, “When I went over to Europe for the first time a few months back, I really didn’t know what to expect and if the audiences would ‘get’ me and what I’m about. I never really felt like I fit in growing up, until I found music as an outlet to connect and express myself. It was honestly an awesome surprise the way that the audiences over there really seemed to listen and engage with the songs. I just felt like something cool was happening and I knew I had to come back as soon as possible.”

Homecoming Dresses Get Second Date

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Looking good at formal dances can be a costly affair for young ladies and their parents.

according to Brei Holmes, one dress drive is looking to help make those special evenings more affordable.

Holmes and her group  are hosting a homecoming dress resale. The group had also done a prom dress resale in the past as a fundraiser.  This year is much like a trial run to see if there is a need .

The dress owners consign their dresses to the project as a way to earn some extra money. The dress owner receives 90{99cd714f394079a7f0ed2eb1518dd31342ff3ceb5b6c267c3ad8acd5b5a7d66b} of what the dress sells for, while the remaining 10{99cd714f394079a7f0ed2eb1518dd31342ff3ceb5b6c267c3ad8acd5b5a7d66b} goes to the school. The dresses vary in price, many as low as $20.

The money may go to the Pekin School, but the dresses are from many places, including Cedar Rapids to Ankeny.

The dress resale project will run on Sunday during regular mall hours at Penn Central Mall.

The Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup Continues At The Pure Michigan 400

Next stop Michigan International Speedway for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.  Twelve drivers have been victorious thus far in 2016: Matt Kenseth, Kyle and Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Junior, Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart and Chris Buescher.  All are within the requisite top thirty of the standings and if they remain there over the final three weeks of the regular season, they’ll have a spot on The Chase Grid.  That leaves a maximum of four post-season berths available based on the point standings.  Ryan Newman holds a thirty-five-point lead over Trevor Bayne in the fight for what would be the final “playoff” spot.  In this year’s first race at Michigan on June 12th, Newman finished eleventh and Bayne placed fifteenth … If the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup began today, Austin Dillon, rookie Chase Elliott and Jamie McMurray would hold the three other spots.

X-FINITY Hits Wisconsin For The Road America 180 Fired Up By Johnsonville

Operation Backpack Supplied 400 Backpacks To Area Students

School is back in session! — Salvation Army of Mahaska County, Sieda Community Action, and United Way of Mahaska County are wrapping up Operation Backpack for the 2016-2017 school year. Thanks to the generosity of the Mahaska County community, this year the program was able to supply almost 400 backpacks filled with supplies to students in the Oskaloosa, North Mahaska, and Eddyville/Blakesburg/ Fremont districts, as well as Webster Preschool. In the next few weeks, extra supplies donated to the program will make their way to school supply closets, where they will continue to help students and teachers throughout the school year.

Aside from individual donations, several groups stepped up to help Operation Backpack this year. The Oskaloosa Community School District Transportation Department helped host Stuff the Bus by lending an actual bus for use during the event. Several groups including the Elks Club, VFW Auxiliary, Bank Iowa of Fremont, US Bank of New Sharon, and Musco lighting held supplementary supply drives to collect donations. Some groups, including Mahaska Drug and the Lions Club donated specific high-need items like backpacks and flash drives (respectively). A local daycare hosted a Back-to-School Bake Sale and raised money they then used to buy supplies for the program. Musco Lighting, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Posse, and Homestead of Oskaloosa all donated funds to Operation Backpack as well.

United Way, Salvation Army, and Sieda Community Action want to thank each and every member of the community who gave to Operation Backpack and more importantly, supported the students of Mahaska County. Because of their generosity, these students now have the tools they need to succeed!

Earnhardt Still Sidelined

Doctors have not cleared Dale Earnhardt Junior to return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as he continues to recover from a concussion.  As a result, he’ll miss at least two more races – Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway and the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on September 4th.  Alex Bowman, who drove the Number-88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to a twenty-sixth-place finish last month in New Hampshire, will make his second start as Earnhardt’s sub in Sunday’s race at Michigan.  Jeff Gordon, who has run the last four races in Earnhardt’s absence, will be back behind the wheel for the Darlington round on Labor Day weekend.
