Talladega Superspeedway announced Tuesday that Hellmann’s mayonnaise has been named title sponsor of Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race. The Hellman’s 500 will kick off the second half of the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Hellmann’s is a brand of New Jersey-based Unilever – one of the world’s leading suppliers of food, home- and personal-care products, and refreshments. Hellman’s has been involved in a variety of NASCAR sponsorships since 2004 … This coming weekend will see a pair of elimination races at Talladega as the post-season rolls on. In the Sprint Cup Series, four drivers will be trimmed from title contention after Sunday’s race … The inaugural Truck Series Chase will see its first cuts of the post-season as two drivers will be dropped from title contention after Saturday’s fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola.

E.B.F.H.S Marching Band Wins Championships
On Saturday, Oct. 15th, the Eddyville-Blakesburg High School Marching Band placed 1st in class 2A at the Mid-Iowa Marching Band Championships in Ankeny for the 20th time in the last 22 years. In a dramatic turn of events, EBF and West Marshall tied with an overall score of 64.9. The Music General Effect Judge’s score was used as the tiebreaker making Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont the class 2A champions as they outscored West Marshall by 1.2 points in that caption. West Marshall won both the Outstanding Drumline and Color Guard Trophies. Earlier in the day, the E.B.F.H.S. Marching Band competed at the State Marching Band Contest in Pella where they earned their 31st consecutive Division I rating with a score of 75.3.
The E.B.F.H.S. Band had an excellent season this year placing 1st in class 2A competition at four different contests. The band outscored over 30 other bands in all classes during the season.
On September 24th, the band placed first in class 2A at the Marching Dutch Invitational with a score of 66.4
outscoring a total of 10 other bands in overall competition. EBF also won the Outstanding Color Guard Award.
On October 1st, the Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont High School Marching Band placed 2nd in class 2A competition at the Urbandale Marching Invitational. EBF was 2 points behind the first place band from West Marshall. PCM won the Outstanding Color Guard award in 2A and West Marshall won the Outstanding Drumline Award. The E.B.F.H.S. Band outscored seven other bands including: Madrid, PCM, Des Moines Christian, Ogden, Perry, North Polk, and Clarke.
. The Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont Marching Band had a very exciting day on October 8th as the band placed 1st in the Valleyfest and Showdown Competitions in West Des Moines. EBF won the Valleyfest 2A competition with a score of 60.7. Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont also won the Outstanding Hornline, Marching and Maneuvering, and Soloist of the Day Awards. Maggie Voyles was chosen as the Outstanding Soloist of the Day in class 2A for her mellophone solos. Maggie Voyles was also selected as the Outstanding Marcher in the EBF Marching Band.
In the evening contest, the “Showdown” of bands, the E.B.F.H.S. Marching Band placed 1st in class C with a score of 53.4 This is the 22nd consecutive year that the band has placed 1st at the “Showdown” Contest. The band also won the Outstanding Hornline, Color Guard, and Soloist trophies. Delanee Van Zante was honored with the Outstanding Soloist of the Day Award for her alto sax solos.
The E.B.F.H.S. Band has 73 members this year. The band is directed by Joe Overton, assistant director Dezirae Fairchild, and color guard instructor Paige Ver Steegh. The field commanders are Claire Jager and Grace Manternach. The soloists for this year’s show are Claire Jager, Teri Jo Lane, Katy Fisher, Maggie Voyles, Hannah Koellner, Delanee Van Zante, Briana Ver Steegh, and Adlynn Eveland. The band was also fortunate to have student teacher Jenny Braundmeier helping students with music and marching this fall.
Director Joe Overton was overheard making these comments: This has been a truly exciting marching band season. The band worked very very hard and represented our school and communities very well. They have so much heart and pride and that is what makes it fun!! Brad Paisley’s new single, “Today,” and its emotional video, have struck a chord with fans across the world. The video quickly went viral after its release, garnering more than 25 million views and 500,000 shares of Facebook during its first week out. Fans also continue to share sentimental posts on Brad’s Facebook page, such as wedding proposals, baby announcements, and military returns.
· Paisley’s says he’s floored by the fans’ overwhelming response to song. Brad says, “I have seen and read the posts and I’m thrilled that the song and video is touching a chord with so many. ‘Today’ means a lot to me and I’m glad it’s a favorite of so many so soon.”
· The news of the song’s big response comes as “Today” also becomes Paisley’s first #1 on Billboard’s Country Digital Song sales chart.

North Mahaska, Pekin Among Winners In Volleyball First Round
Last night, the volleyball playoffs got underway in Class 1A and 2A and there were some tight battles across the area.
In Class 1A Region 4, BGM punched their ticket to the second round by beating Meskwaki Settlement School in straight sets. The Bears will face #2 Hudson in the second round next Monday.
In the bottom half of that bracket, Lynnville-Sully and Melcher-Dallas were eliminated in straight sets by Southeast Warren and Ankeny Christian, respectively.
English Valleys and Tri-County advanced in Class 1A Region 8. EV had a tough matchup with Keota, but was able to come out on top in five sets. They’ll battle #12 New London on the road next Monday in the second round. Tri-County upended Twin Cedars in Bussey, 3-0. Moravia fell to Wayne in a five-set thriller to wrap up their season.
In Class 2A Region 4, Montezuma battled hard, but ultimately fell short, losing in five sets to Colfax-Mingo on the road. C-M will now face #9 Woodward-Granger.
North Mahaska dominated Pleasantville in Class 2A Region 5, as heard on 104.9 FM KBOE and kboeradio.com. The 3-0 sweep on the road sets up a matchup with Pella Christian for the Warhawks next Monday.
Finally, in Class 2A Region 8, Pekin went on the road and swept Cardinal. That sets up a battle with rival Sigourney in the second round Monday at SHS.
All second round matchups for Class 1A and 2A will be contested Monday, October 24th, at 7 PM.

More performers have been added to The 50th Annual CMA Awards, including Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Tim McGraw, Kacey Musgraves and Garth Brooks with Trisha Yearwood. These artists join previously announced performers Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Maren Morris, Keith Urban, as well as co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. Harvick Return To Glory
For 2014 Sprint Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, this year’s post-season has been an up-and-down experience. Sunday afternoon at Kansas Speedway, Harvick was “UP” … charging past race leader Carl Edwards on the day’s final restart and driving off to victory – securing one of the eight spots in the next round of the 2016 Chase. Harvick opened the post-season with a twentieth-place finish last month at Chicagoland Speedway, followed by a victory in New Hampshire. But then, he was slowed by finishes of thirty-seventh and thirty-eighth before Sunday’s return to glory. Harvick now joins Jimmie Johnson as the only two drivers with guaranteed spots in the Round of Eight that opens in two weeks at Martinsville Speedway. Sunday’s margin of victory over runner-up Edwards was one-point-one seconds. Joey Logano … gunning for his second straight victory in the track’s fall Cup Series race … ran third. Johnson, last week’s winner in Charlotte, placed fourth. Kyle Busch, this year’s Number-1 seed in the post-season Chase, completed the top five in his bid for a season sweep on the Kansas City oval, having won there in early May … Pole sitter Matt Kenseth led a race-high 116 laps and finished ninth … Sunday’s race included sixteen lead changes among ten drivers … There were eight cautions for thirty-eight laps … With the 2016 Chase now at its halfway point, three different drivers have won the first five races. Harvick and Martin Truex Junior have two victories apiece with one for Johnson.

Bridge Closure Postponed Until Wednesday
October 17, 2016 – Ottumwa, Iowa – Due to windy conditions, the work to apply weather sealant to the Market Street Bridge has been postponed until Wednesday, October 19. The City’s Public Works Department applies a sealant to bridge roadways to protect the surface from corrosive materials used to control ice in winter.
Work on the Market Street Bridge is tentatively rescheduled for Wednesday. The bridge will be closed to traffic with work complete and the bridge re-opened by the end of the day. Motorists and walkers should plan ahead to find an alternate route during the closure.

Backstreet Boys And Nelly Join Florida Georgia Line In Nashville
It was a night full of surprises when Florida Georgia Line played a sold-out show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Thursday night (10/13). Midway through FGL’s set, the Backstreet Boys made a surprise appearance and performed their hit “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” for the screaming crowd. The ’90s boy band then joined FGL on “God, Your Mama, and Me,” their collaborative song from the duo’s Dig Your Roots album. And, the surprises kept coming, with Jake Owen taking the stage later in the set to help the duo perform “Sun Daze.” Then, during their encore, FGL introduced Nelly to the stage and the three performed a medley of the rapper’s hits as well as their collaborative rendition of “Cruise.”
