Repeat Winners Filled the Night on Yaw’s Auto Salvage Night

Oskaloosa, Iowa (June 21st, 2017) – Another beautiful night of racing action at the Southern Iowa Speedway for Yaw’s Auto Salvage Night, 51 cars signed in the pit area. The Kids got to have some fun at Intermission as they got to take a little field trip through the pit area to see the drivers and crews putting the finishing touches on the race cars for the features. Hobby Stocks still had the $300 bounty on the line, if they can beat Shannon Anderson, thanks to Edel Lawn Service, Cindy Drost and Independent Auto of Marshalltown.

Trent Orwig was the only first time winner by grabbing the IMCA Sport Compacts. Curtis VanDerWal (Sport Mods), Cayden Carter (Stock Cars), Shannon Anderson (Hobby Stocks) and Scott Dickey (Modifieds).

First feature of the night was the 12 lap Kelli Steli State Farm IMCA Sport Compacts feature. Levi Heath and Nathan Moody led the field to the green flag and it was Moody grabbing the top spot on lap one. Moody saw Trent Orwig wrestle the lead away on lap two. Orwig went on to take his first win of the season at the monster. Moody finished second ahead of Austin Reuman, Bryan Claussen and Ashley Reuman.

Austin Paul started inside row two but by the end of lap one in the Oskaloosa True Value IMCA Sport Mods 16 lap feature event, Paul was the leader. Paul slipped a bit allowing Curtis VanDerWal, who started fifth, to take the top spot away on lap three. VanDerWal began to pull until cautions came out on lap six for Tony Johnson in turn two and then again on lap 12 for Steven Berry. VanDerWal was not going to let the cautions faze him as he headed on to take his fifth win at his hometown track. Paul held of Logan Anderson for second. Jason McDaniel was fourth and Blaine Webster was fifth.

Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars 16 lap feature event was next up on the speedway. Danny Thrasher and Derrick Agee led the field to the green and it was the Agee wrestling the top spot away. Thrasher did not give up as he was able to grab the top spot away from Agee on lap four. Thrasher started to look comfortable but Cayden Carter worked his way from the fifth place starting spot to second. Carter grabbed the top spot away from Thrasher on lap eight and cruised on to take his second win in the Stock Cars at Osky. Thrasher finished second, Nathan Wood was third, Dustin Griffiths passed Mike Hughes on the last lap to claim fourth with Hughes in fifth.

Bradley Graham took advantage of the pole postition starting spot of the KBOE Radio / Mahaska Bottling IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature by grabbing the early lead. Graham and the field saw the caution out just after lap two scored in the books when Dave Seddon spun exiting turn four collecting Nick Ulin and Matt Smith. Graham appeared he was not going to let that both him as he got a great restart but so did ninth place starter Shannon Anderson, who was working his way through the field. Anderson grabbed the top spot away from Graham on lap seven. Anderson led the remaining laps taking the win keeping him perfect, seven for seven in Osky. Anderson now has 21 wins on the season and 303 IMCA wins in his career. Graham settled for second, Veteran Bill Bonnett came home third, Jamie Songer was fourth and Steve Allen was fifth.

Advice for Thomas Rhett – Jason Aldean

With two daughters of his own, Jason Aldean might seem like the perfect person to give Thomas Rhett parenting pointers about raising two little girls. But in an interview with Taste of Country, Aldean said that while Rhett recently asked him a few questions about parenthood, he doesn’t feel like his advice could get him fully prepared for what’s coming. Jason said, “I think being a parent — it’s something you figure out along the way. There’s no book; there’s no right or wrong way to do it. You just figure it out as you go along.”

Advice for Her Younger Self – Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood has made a name for herself in the worlds of both country music and fitness, and she’s done so by having confidence in the individual she is. But Carrie admits she didn’t always have the self-reliance that she enjoys today. Carrie tells Bustle, “When I was younger I worried about what people thought about me. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self what I know now — that trying to fit into someone else’s vision of you will never make you happy.” Fast forward to now, and Underwood says she just focuses on the goals she sets for herself and doing what’s in her best interests.

Pella Christian, Pekin Affected by Revision to Class 2A and 3A Softball Regionals

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has made a revision to its regional pairings in Class 2A and Class 3A for softball.

WACO and Columbus Junction have been playing softball together this season, something that was overlooked by the IGHSAU, so to make the adjustment for those teams participating together, their combined team was brought up from Class 2A to Class 3A. That forced Dyersville Beckman Catholic into Class 2A and that has affected multiple regions in both classes.

For our area’s concern, Class 2A Region 6 now involves both Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Pella Christian. PC got the shortest stick, as now they are a #2 seed in a region instead of the #1 seed in Region 7. PC will face either Mediapolis or Danville in the second round on Wednesday, July 5th at 7 PM.

Pekin is still in Region 6 and will now be facing Highland on the road in Riverside instead of hosting a first round matchup, which was originally announced. That game is July 5th at 7 PM as well.

The first round for small school regionals will be played on Monday, July 3rd.

Tim and Faith Help Reveal Another Baby’s Gender on Tour

For the second time this year, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have helped a couple at their “Soul2Soul Tour” learn the gender of their baby. The latest gender reveal came over the weekend during a tour stop in Moline, Illinois, with Faith telling Vikki and Rodney Kula the happy news as McGraw stood on the stage in the background. After the couple assured Faith that they wanted her to be the first to learn the baby’s sex, she opened the envelope and exclaimed to the whole crowd, “It’s a boy!” A video of the special moment can be seen here.

  • In April, Tim and Faith revealed a baby’s gender at a tour stop in New Orleans during the opening weekend of their “Soul2Soul Tour.”
