PELLA CHRISTIAN, PEKIN AFFECTED BY REVISION TO CLASS 2A AND 3A SOFTBALL REGIONALS

Pella Christian, Pekin Affected by Revision to Class 2A and 3A Softball Regionals

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has made a revision to its regional pairings in Class 2A and Class 3A for softball.

WACO and Columbus Junction have been playing softball together this season, something that was overlooked by the IGHSAU, so to make the adjustment for those teams participating together, their combined team was brought up from Class 2A to Class 3A. That forced Dyersville Beckman Catholic into Class 2A and that has affected multiple regions in both classes.

For our area’s concern, Class 2A Region 6 now involves both Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Pella Christian. PC got the shortest stick, as now they are a #2 seed in a region instead of the #1 seed in Region 7. PC will face either Mediapolis or Danville in the second round on Wednesday, July 5th at 7 PM.

Pekin is still in Region 6 and will now be facing Highland on the road in Riverside instead of hosting a first round matchup, which was originally announced. That game is July 5th at 7 PM as well.

The first round for small school regionals will be played on Monday, July 3rd.
