On this day in 2001, Brooks & Dunn began a six-week romp at #1 on the Billboard US Hot Country Songs chart with “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You”. The song was released as the first single from their album Steers & Stripes.
“Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You” was nominated by the Country Music Association for Single of the Year, and eventually ranked as the Billboard US Hot Country Songs chart’s No. 1 song of 2001.
On this day in 2002, Kix Brooks & Ronnie Dunn were surprised with the Humanitarian Award at the Annual Country Radio Seminar in Nashville.
The duo were given the award for performing at countless benefit concerts, their involvement with the Red Cross flood relief efforts in St. Louis, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, and other charitable organizations.
On this day in 1995, Brooks & Dunn’s “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone” was #1 on the charts. The song was the fourth single from their third album Waitin’ on Sundown. This was the first #1 for the duo that featured Kix Brooks on lead vocals instead of Ronnie Dunn.
On this day in 1955, Kix Brooks was born. After working on pipelines in Alaska and attending college, his father urged him to pursue his dream of country music. Kix moved to Nashville in the early 80’s and began work as a songwriter. He would write hits for others, but couldn’t find success with his own album, Kix Brooks.
After the failure of his debut album, Kix teamed up with Ronnie Dunn to create Brooks & Dunn. The duo has released fifty singles, of which twenty went number one. The duo has also won CMA’s, 26 ACMA’s and 2 Grammy Awards.
On this day in 2011, Miranda Lambert and Ronnie Dunn announced the nominees for the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards at a press conference in Nashville at the Country Music Hall Of Fame and Museum.
