Dolly Parton Surprises Families Recovering From Wildfires

Families affected by last year’s wildfires in East Tennessee have already been receiving $1,000 each month through Dolly Parton’s My People Fund, but they recently noticed an extra surprise when they received their final check. Thanks to fundraising efforts, the Dollywood Foundation officials were able to give a $5,000 check to each family in need to assist in the rebuilding and recovery efforts. That brings the total amount each family received to $10,000.

  • The money was raised by contributions from across the country, as well as donations made through the Smoky Mountains Rise telethon which took place in December.
  • In addition to the money given through monthly check distribution, at least $3 million will be contributed to the Mountain Tough Recovery Team which will help residents during the critical rebuilding period ahead. This program will begin helping families on June 1.
  • People who want to help the Mountain Tough Recovery Team can visit www.mountaintough.org for information on how to donate, how to volunteer and much more.

Breaking: Dollywood Is Evacuated Due To Wildfire – Parton Reacts

Dolly Parton’s signature theme park, Dollywood, has been evacuated due to a raging wildfire that is threatening the resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. On Monday night (11/28), the resort staff evacuated families from 50 rooms at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort as well as families staying in 19 cabins at Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Cabins. An assessment of the property on Tuesday morning (11/29) revealed that there was no damage to the park itself but more than a dozen cabins managed by Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Cabins were damaged or destroyed.

  • Dolly Parton said earlier yesterday (11/29): “I have been watching the terrible fires in the Great Smoky Mountains and I am heartbroken.  I am praying for all the families affected by the fire and the firefighters who are working so hard to keep everyone safe. It is a blessing that my Dollywood theme park, the DreamMore Resort and so many businesses in Pigeon Forge have been spared.”
  • As of Tuesday, the town of Gatlinburg and a portion of Pigeon Forge, where Dollywood is located, were under a mandatory evacuation order.
