Bills in Iowa Legislature Session Look To Enforce Federal Immigration Laws

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Bills in the Republican-controlled Iowa Legislature this session purport to enforce federal immigration laws, but academics say some proposals are redundant and could face legal challenges. Republicans dispute any suggestion that Iowa isn’t welcoming to immigrants, and emphasize that the measures ensure rules are followed.

Blake Shelton Sings TLC’s “Waterfalls” With The Voice Coaches

In a new promo video for Season 12 of The Voice, Blake Shelton joined his fellow coaches Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys and Adam Levine to perform an acoustic rendition of TLC’s hit “Waterfalls.” The video shows the coaches sitting in a circle as they each take turns singing the song’s verses and come together to sing the chorus.  The video can be seen here.

 

·       Season 12 of The Voice will premiere on NBC tonight (2/27).

·       Luke Bryan will serve as a mentor for Shelton’s team during the battle rounds portion of the show’s new season.

On this day in 2011, Lady Antebellum was back on top of the Billboard Country Albums Chart with Need You Know. Lady A had just come off winning five Grammy Awards.

Despite the album receiving mixed reviews, it produced three number ones with “Need You Now”, “American Honey”, and “Our Kind of Love”. Since then the album has been certified 3x platinum by the RIAA.

Luke Bryan Speaks Publicly After Niece’s Death

Luke Bryan has spoken publicly for the first time since his infant niece, Sadie Brett Boyer, passed away on Tuesday (2/21). On Thursday (2/23), Bryan appeared at a Universal Music Group luncheon during Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, where he thanked everyone for praying for him and his family during this difficult week. Luke told the crowd gathered at the Ryman Auditorium, “I’ll tell you what, when I’m checking my socials and see so many of you guys that are kind of lifting my family up, I really appreciate it. It means the world to me.”

 

·       The baby, affectionately known as Brett, was the daughter of Bo Boyer and his wife Ellen Wells Boyer. Bo is the brother of Luke’s wife, Caroline.

·       According to a post Ellen’s Facebook page, Brett suffered from a congenital heart defect and her condition had declined overnight on Sunday (2/19).

Iowa Man Sentenced For Lying to Cold Case Investigators

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa man has been sentenced for lying during the investigation of the 1985 killing of his estranged wife’s paramour.

Anthony Burtch of Iowa City initially was charged with murder for the slaying of Lance DeWoody. New testing of DNA evidence in the cold case didn’t implicate him, so the murder charge was dropped.

The 58-year-old Burtch was given six months in jail at his sentencing Thursday and given credit for six months already served. He’d pleaded guilty to obstructing prosecution. He acknowledged lying about being harassed by three men.

The Grand Ole Opry Hosts Its Star-Studded CRS Show

On Wednesday night (2/22), the Grand Ole Opry hosted a star-studded show for everyone in town for the 3-day Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in Nashville. The event was held in Omni Nashville Hotel’s Broadway Ballroom and included performances by Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum, Trace Adkins, Crystal Gayle, Chris Janson, LOCASH, Cam, Michael Ray, Chris Lane, Carly Pearce and Dailey & Vincent. To make the show more authentic, the Opry even transformed the hotel’s Broadway Ballroom with its signature barn backdrop and famous microphone stands.

Carrie Underwood Duets With Her Son in the Car

Move over Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood has a new duet partner named Isaiah. Carrie posted a cute video on Instagram yesterday (2/22) that shows her in the car with her nearly 2-year-old son, Isaiah, trading lyrics on the song “Jesus Loves Me.” In the video, Isaiah sits in a rear-facing car seat as Carrie sings the song’s lyrics and he responds in the most adorable way. The video, which already has nearly 500,000 views, can be seen here.

Treasurer Accused of Stealing From High School Booster Club

MANLY, Iowa (AP) — A woman has been accused of stealing more than $9,300 from a northern Iowa high school athletics booster club when she was treasurer.

Online court records say 37-year-old Autumn Dillavou is charged with theft. Authorities say she took the money from the Central Springs High School Athletic Booster Club in Manly from May through December 2016.

A public phone listed for Dillavou was not in service Thursday. Attempts to reach her attorney were unsuccessful.

 

Jason Aldean’s Sprawling Estate Up For Sale

Jason Aldean’s sprawling Black Jack Ridge farm near Centerville, Tennessee, is on the market for just over $4.5 million, according to Nash Country Daily. Located roughly 60 miles west of Nashville, the 1,436-acre estate features six bedrooms and 5.5 baths on a 4,032-square-foot retreat, including a luxury lodge and numerous multi-purpose outbuildings.

 

·       The website for Black Jack Ridge says the property is “the ideal habitat for wildlife and hunting,” with high game fences surrounding the land and deer stands and feeding stations spread across the area.
