Chesney Responds To Beyonce Backlash

Kenny Chesney has responded to the backlash he got for his expression when the camera shot to him during Beyoncé’s CMA performance last week (11/2) with the Dixie Chicks. At the show, Kenny was given the Country Music Association’s Pinnacle Award given for only the third time in the organization’s history. It was the next afternoon that Chesney was told that there was a buzz about him dissing Beyoncé and he was astounded. He said later, “I love Beyoncé… I loved her Super Bowl performance, her sense of how to make the music hit really hard – and give it drama when she’s onstage. The idea her fans were so quick to judge me, or know what I was thinking doesn’t feel like the woman I’ve always imagined Beyoncé to be – and honestly, the people who love her music, either.”

·       Chesney also said, “As someone who believes in the message of Spread the Love, we try to find the best in people – and in this case, that meant really watching the musicianship on that stage, as well as a guest in our format who’d written an incredible song. I am amazed and saddened this is the response my respect for her art gets.”

Kenny Chesney And Pink Hit #1

Kenny Chesney’s duet single with Pink, “Setting The World On Fire,” tops the Billboard Country Airplay and Mediabase Country Airplay charts this week, giving Kenny his 29th career #1 song. Celebrating another chart-topper is exciting in its own right, but having Country Radio respond to Pink the way they have makes Kenny even more proud. He says, “I think when you bring an artist into country, you need to play to their strengths, but you also want them to feel caught up in what we do.”

·       The song has already spent two weeks atop the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, which combines streaming, sales and airplay, and is currently making its way up the Hot AC charts as well.

October 7th: On This Day

On this day in 2010, Kenny Chesney captured his tenth consecutive debut at the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart with Hemingway’s Whiskey. The project sold 183,000 copies in it’s first week and also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album produced 4 #1’s with “The Boy of Fall”, “Somewhere with You”, “Live a Little”, and “Reality”.

Hemingway’s Whiskey has since been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Kenny Chesney Announces His New Single

Kenny Chesney has revealed “Setting The World On Fire” as the next single from his new album, Cosmic Hallelujah. The previously announced collaboration with pop star Pink will hit country radio on July 28 at 5 PM ET. Earlier this month, Kenny said he delayed the release of his new album because he wanted this duet track to be on there.

·       Chesney says of the new single, “You can’t conjure a song that captures that feeling of being on the brink like this does. The lyrics are a perfect way of saying it, but when you feel that melody rise, the arrangement picking up momentum – it’s bigger than you are, and all you want to do is throw yourself against the night.”
