On September 22, 2016 at 2:46pm Wapello County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a medical emergency in the 8300 block of 110th Ave east of Ottumwa, IA. Once medical services were on scene it was learned the construction worker had fallen a distance and the worker had died as a result of the fall. Assisting the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office was Wapello County Rural Fire and ORMICS.

Chris Stapleton was a big winner at the 5th Annual Americana Music Association Honors & Awards show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday night (9/21). During the ceremony, Stapleton was presented with the Artist of the Year award – his first-ever win (or nomination) in this category. Chris told the crowd during his acceptance speech, “Thank you to all the Americana radio stations out there, it’s been a big part of what we’ve been doing. I’m nervous, there’s so many heroes out here in audience and up here on the stage, this is a remarkable thing.”

One week after announcing a new policy of levying potentially stiffer penalties for substantial violations of technical regulations found in post-race inspection, NASCAR officials said Wednesday that the sanctioning body will not penalize Sprint Cup teams for minor infractions discovered during routine post-race laser inspection. Last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, the cars of race winner Martin Truex Junior and twelfth-place finisher Jimmie Johnson failed post-race inspection by small measurements that were slightly outside approved tolerances. NASCAR said yesterday that it will not penalize those teams, which were among the nine subjected to post-race laser inspection following the opening round of the 2016 Chase … Truex was not the only winning driver whose vehicle failed post-race inspection at Chicagoland. Kyle Busch won the Camping World Truck Series American Ethanol 225, but his Toyota lost in the inspection line afterwards. Laser inspection is not used in the Truck Series, where Busch’s Tundra was found to be too low. Minor penalties were handed down Wednesday, with crew chief Wes Ward fined six thousand dollars and the team docked ten championship points – dropping it from a tie for thirtieth into a tie for thirty-first in the owner standings.
On this day in 1967, Flatt & Scruggs released the country classic “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”. Though halting on the charts at #55, the song is known throughout the world, most notably for being used as background music in the movie Bonnie & Clyde. After being in that film, the song was used in other films and television shows with chase scenes and in other comedic circumstances.
In 2004, “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” was selected as one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress that year to be added to the National Recording Registry.
There was a bit of confusion recently when Kelsea Ballerini posted a video on Snapchat of a new song playing in the studio. Kelsea’s fans had never heard the song before, and many of them speculated that it was either a new Taylor Swift song – which Ballerini had leaked — or some kind of collaboration between the two friends. Well, it turns out it was neither. Ballerini took to Twitter yesterday afternoon (9/21) to clear things up, revealing that the new tune was actually just a demo of hers called “Roses.” Kelsea tweeted, “Y’all! I’m just as excited for some new T Swift Jams, but I’m not involved in it!! Roses was a demo of mine. Crazy confusion!”
Sam Hunt has been announced as a headliner at the 5th Annual Taste of Country Music Festival. Hunt will join previously announced headliner Jason Aldean at next year’s festival, which will be held June 9-11 at Hunter Mountain Resort in Hunter, New York. Located in the Great Northern Catskills of Greene County, the annual Taste of Country Music Festival has become one of the Northeast’s premiere country music festivals every year.
Fans headed to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for this weekend’s Sprint Cup-Camping World Truck Series twin bill will be treated to a pair of post-season races as the title “Chase” picks up steam for twenty-four drivers. Martin Truex Junior won the opening race of the Sprint Cup Chase last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway while some familiar faces are at the bottom of the sixteen-driver field with just two weeks left to stave off elimination. Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson and rookie Chris Buescher – all race winners during the regular season – hold the last three spots on The Chase Grid … In the Truck Series, eight drivers are poised to embark on the inaugural post-season Chase – with Kyle Busch Motorsports rookie William Byron the top seed. The title field will be trimmed to six following the third race of the opening round on October 22nd at Talladega Superspeedway.
Happy Birthday to Faith Hill, who was born on this day in 1967. Hill started her career in music as a secretary at a music publishing firm and singing backup vocals. After signing a record contract, in 1993, Hill released Take Me as I Am. With the chart success of “Wild One”, Take Me as I am sold over 3,000,000 copies. Hill became the first female country singer in 30 years to hold Billboard’s number one position.
The music video for Chris Lane’s new single “For Her” was also the setting for a real-life marriage proposal. Chris used the video shoot as a cover story to help a fan named Brandon surprise his girlfriend Connie and pop the question. First, they told Connie that her friend had won VIP passes to the video shoot, and then they convinced her to invite Brandon as one of the guests. The video shows the group of friends hanging out on the set of the video shoot, with Brandon taking center stage midway through for the big moment. During the shoot, Brandon walks out next to Lane and starts singing the song. Connie then joins Brandon on the floor and he drops to one knee to propose. Oh, and, Connie says “Yes.”

Marshall, Mo.–The Statesmen volleyball team will need to wait another night to pick up its first league victory as it fell 3-0 to Missouri Valley in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
William Penn (3-13, 0-2 Heart) lost by scores of 17-25, 17-25, 15-25.
The visitors played even through the first half of the initial set, but at 13-13, the Vikings (16-5, 1-1 Heart) tallied five straight points and took the 1-0 advantage.
WPU responded well, scoring the first four points of the second round. Unfortunately, MVC rallied back to lead 8-7. The navy and gold kept close to tie the score at 11-11, but the hosts reeled off eight in a row and cruised to a decisive lead.
Another good start was recorded by William Penn in the third set as it led 7-6. The Statesmen were still in contention later, trailing by just one at 16-15. Missouri Valley had one final run, though, finishing off the night with nine consecutive points.
Savanna Hartman (Sr., Morgan Hill, Calif., Psychology) and Claire Simmons (So., Williamsburg, Iowa, Psychology) each tallied a team-high five kills, while setters Kathleen Steffen (So., Vinton, Iowa, Biology), with 10 assists, and Haley Smith (So., Adrian, Mich., Elementary Education), with seven, guided the offense.
Ashley Miller (So., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) (13 digs) and Nicole Harrison (Sr., San Diego, Calif., Biology) (one solo block, one block assist) topped the defensive effort.
