FGL Presents Veteran With An All-Terrain Wheelchair

During a recent “Dig Your Roots” tour stop, Florida Georgia Line teamed up with the Independence Fund to give retired Army Staff Sergeant Shane Savage an all-terrain wheelchair. The duo’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard were personally on hand to present the wheelchair to Savage, who lost his leg in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan. FGL posted a picture of them with the veteran, saying, “Truly blessed to be able to present a chair to retired Army Staff Sergeant Shane Savage.”

·       This marks the second time that FGL has presented an all-terrain wheelchair to a wounded veteran. Earlier this year, the duo presented a wheelchair to retired Army Sergeant Seth Kotouc at a show in Oklahoma City.

LONG GROVE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a driver and a student were injured in a collision of two school buses in eastern Iowa’s Scott County.

The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, about two miles northwest of Long Grove. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says a northbound bus halted at a stop sign and then proceeded into the rural intersection, colliding with a westbound bus.

The driver of the northbound bus, 67-year-old Stanley Ray, was taken to Trinity Bettendorf hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. One child was treated at the scene.

It’s unclear how many children were on the two buses. The Sheriff’s Office says both were carrying children from the North School Community Schools district. The collision is being investigated.

Pet of the Week: Brightmist

Hi, I’m Brightmist and I’m a 3 and 1/2-month-old black kitten. My siblings and I came to the shelter when we were only 2 weeks old without a mother. The nice shelter staff bottle fed us and kept us warm and happy while we grew up. We are the elf family since we were born in December. We’re named after really cool elves–we even look like elves. Anyway, we have a nice big area to play with each other and have a great time together. We all cuddle up together at naptime to recharge. Now we’re ready to go out into the world and make it a more loving place, so come on out and meet us and take us home. We can work magic on your heart!!!

Emergency Alert Reached Some Wrong Phones, Officials Say

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say an emergency alert mistakenly was sent to some wireless phones in eastern Iowa and Polk County.

The message sent around 7:30 p.m. Monday read, “Civil Emergency in this area until 8:45 p.m. EDT” and “Take Shelter Now Polk-County.”

But there was no emergency.

A news release from Johnson County Emergency Management says the message was supposed to be a follow-up on a missing person from Johnson County. The message system vendor is investigating how and why the erroneous message was sent and how it reached Polk County towers.
