Oskaloosa Emergency Personnel Responded To Suspicious Substance At Mahaska

On Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at approximately 3:50 p.m. the Oskaloosa Police Department, Oskaloosa Fire Department, Mahaska County Hazmat and Mahaska County Emergency Management responded to Mahaska at 1407 17th Avenue East in reference to a letter that was received by an employee that contained a suspicious white powdery substance and a threatening note. The powdery substance in the envelope was tested at the scene by the Army National Guard 71st Civil Support Unit who determined the substance to be non-threatening or harmful to the public.
Due to the nature of this incident the continuing investigation will include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Postal Inspectors Office and the Oskaloosa Police Department.

Pearn Suspended, Will Appeal

Cole Pearn, Sprint Cup Series crew chief on Martin Truex Jr.’s Number 78 Furniture Row Racing team, has been suspended for one race and fined fifty thousand dollars for an unspecified pre-race inspection violation last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The team has been docked fifteen championship owner and driver points. Joe Garone, president of Furniture Row Racing, said in a statement that the team will appeal Wednesday’s penalties. Pearn’s one-race suspension and his fine will be deferred until the conclusion of the appeal process.

Randall Burnett, Sprint Cup Series crew chief on A-J Allmendinger’s Number-47 JTG Daugherty Racing team, was fined fifteen thousand dollars for a pre-qualifying inspection violation. The team has been docked ten championship owner and driver points … Similar penalties were also assessed to crew chiefs for the teams of Austin Dillon, Paul Menard, Ryan Newman and Michael McDowell … A total of eighteen teams across all three of NASCAR’s top national series were assessed penalties or given written warnings for rule violations last weekend in Atlanta.

Ottumwa Police Department Investigating Kum And Go Robbery

On March 3, 2016 at approximately 5:50 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to the Kum and Go, located at 534 Church Street, on a report of a Robbery that had just occurred. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect is a white male. The suspect entered the station and threatened the clerk with a handgun. The suspect removed the cash drawer from the register and left the area on foot southbound in the alley between Moore and Sheridan Streets.

During the Robbery, the suspect was wearing what appeared to be a white shirt on his head to conceal his identity, along with a green colored coat.

The Band Perry Parts Ways With Big Machine Label Group

The Band Perry and Big Machine Label Group (BMLG) have parted ways. The sibling trio announced the news on Facebook Tuesday (3/1) in a statement that said, “We and Big Machine Label Group have made a mutual decision to bring our working relationship to a close. We are grateful for six years of the big moment and great strides we made with our BMLG family and will carry that foundation forward with us as we begin the next leg of our journey.”

City Street Department Repairing Pike Road Next Week

The City Street Department will be doing a street repair on Pike Road next week. On Tuesday March 8, Pike Road will be closed at the intersection of N. Elm Street.   Drivers should detour to N. Van Buren Avenue to access Pike.  That section of Pike Road will be closed for approximately one week  for the work.
Motorists should reduce speed and be alert for workers and heavy equipment in and near work zones.   Please respect road closure signs.   Construction areas are dangerous areas for vehicles.   Drivers who go beyond road closure markings are liable for damages, not only to their vehicle, but also to public infrastructure.

Zac Brown Band Hitting The Road For Their Sixth Headlining U.S. Tour

Zac Brown Band will be hitting the road this spring on their sixth headlining U.S. tour. ZBB’s “Black Out The Sun 2016 Tour” will kick off in Hartford, Connecticut, on May 19th and will feature special guest Drake White & The Big Fire as the opening act. The tour will continue through September with stops in both amphitheaters and stadiums.

Sprint Cup Series Power Rankings

With a pair of third-place finishes to begin the season, Kyle Busch has climbed to the top of this week’s Motor Racing Network Power Rankings as he opens defense of his Sprint Cup Series championship.
