I am Trip and I am a 1-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix. I have been surrendered to the shelter because I was a little too energetic for my owner. I am very friendly and enthusiastic! I love to play fetch, chase and tug-of-war! I also like squeaky toys so pick some up on your way out the adopt me! I know how to “sit”, “shake” and “down”. We can work on my other commands when we get home. I probably should not be in a home with small children. I am so enthusiastic that I sometimes just walk over them! They’re very small! Groups: Iowa Agency Misinterpreting Law On Exotic Animals

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Animal rights groups say the state agency that regulates wild and exotic animals in Iowa is misinterpreting a nearly decade-old law that imposes tough rules for keeping such animals, and they argue it’s created a loophole.
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa and the Washington-based Born Free USA filed documents in February with the Iowa Court of Appeals that contend the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is limiting its own authority in overseeing some facilities that exhibit wildlife.
A 2007 law banned people from keeping such animals, though previous owners were grandfathered in with new rules. The advocacy groups say the department allows certain wildlife exhibitors to register through federal officials instead of following stringent state registration rules.
The agency says it’s following the law.

NASCAR X-Finity Series Boyd Gaming 300

The NASCAR X-Finity Series runs on the mile-and-a-half desert oval with Saturday’s Boyd Gaming 300, where Austin Dillon seeks his second straight Vegas victory. If successful, he would be the first driver with back-to-back wins since the track first hosted the series in 1997. Dillon is among forty-two drivers on the preliminary entry list that includes early-season points leader Elliott Sadler … Five drivers are signed up for double duty at Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Dillon, Almirola, Busch, Chase Elliott and Brad Keselowski. Team owner Jack Roush has amassed thirteen victories in Las Vegas – seven in the Sprint in the X-FINITY Series, leading both divisions.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt 400

Next Stop… Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Kobalt 400 the third race of the 2016 Sprint Cup Series and the second weekend for NASCAR’s new low-downforce rules package. Teams had a pair of practice sessions on Thursday with Jimmie Johnson posting the fastest overall speed of 192.981 miles per hour. Aric Almirola, Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin, Austin Dillon and Matt Kenseth completed the top five. Joey Logano had the fastest average speed over ten consecutive laps, 187.604 miles per hour.

Kevin Harvick, the defending race winner, failed to crack the top ten in either of Thursday’s two sessions. In last year’sKobalt 400, Harvick started eighteenth and finished first. Jeff Gordon started first and finished eighteenth.

Hamlin hit the wall during Thursday afternoon’s test session. His Number-11 Joe Gibbs Racing team will use a back-up Toyota this weekend. Teams will get ninety more minutes of practice today before qualifying late this afternoon. Kasey Kahne has the track record for poles with three, one ahead of Kyle Busch – who’s the only Cup Series driver to win a race in Vegas after starting from the pole position. That victory came in 2009.

Johnson leads all drivers with four wins at L-V-M-S, including a run of three straight from 2005 through 2007.

He’s coming off his seventy-sixth career win last weekend in Atlanta, which tied the late Dale Earnhardt for seventh place on NASCAR’s all-time list. The last driver with back-to-back wins in the Sprint Cup Series is Logano, who put three victories in a row together during last year’s post-season Chase.

Gustin Marches To Fourth USMTS Win Of 2016

ARDMORE, Okla. (March 3) — Marshalltown, Iowa’s Ryan Gustin chalked up his fourth win of USMTS Winter Speedweeks Thursday night at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.

Gustin has now won at each of the four race tracks visited by the United States Modified Touring Series to kick off the 2016 campaign, and ‘The Reaper’ looks to be back in the same form that carried him to the 2011 and 2012 USMTS national crowns.

“It was another good night for us, and I can’t say enough about this crew and our sponsors that keep us going,” Gustin said.

“The track was really good up top so it made you get up on the wheel. That kind of fits my style really well.”

Lucas Schott made his first start of the season from the outside of the front row and wrestled control from polesitter Rodney Sanders when the green flag waved to start the 35-lap feature race.

Schott paced the first seven laps before Jason Hughes got by on lap 8 following a caution. Hughes suffered the same fate later on when Gustin blasted into the top spot on lap 19.

From there, Gustin set sail and took the checkered flags ahead of Hughes to pocket the $2,000 winner’s check.

Sanders, who faded as far back as sixth at one point, regrouped and held off 13th-starting Cade Dillard for the third spot while Stormy Scott roared from 19th on the starting grid to grab fifth.

Dereck Ramirez, Zack VanderBeek, Johnny Scott, Austin Arneson and Triston Dycus rounded out the top 10 in the “A” Main on the first of three days at John and Nikki Webb’s 3/8-mile clay oval.

On Friday, the first heat race rolls onto the track at 7 p.m. with USMTS Modifieds racing for $3,000 to win, Limited Mods $500 to win and Hobby Stocks $300 to win. Grandstands are $20 for adults and kids ages 6-12 are $5 with children 5 and under free. Pit passes are $35.

Saturday’s USMTS Winter Speedweeks finale starts at 6 p.m. USMTS Modifieds race for $4,000 while Limited Mods pay $600 to win and Hobby Stocks $400 to win. Grandstands are $20 for adults and kids ages 6-12 are $5 with children 5 and under free. Pit passes are $40.

Kelsea Ballerini Added To Academy Of Country Music Awards Performers List

The list of performers at the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards has grown with the addition of Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, and Sam Hunt to the already star-studded lineup. These artists join previously announced performers Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line and Cam during the show, which will be broadcast live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 3rd at 7:00 pm on CBS.

Man Found Dead Outside Knoxville Hospital E.R.

Authorities are investigating a man’s death after a body was found near the emergency room of Knoxville Hospitals and Clinics.

Knoxville police were dispatched to the hospital around 9:35 a.m. Thursday on a report of a dead body involving a firearm. Police Chief Dan Losada said the victim is well-known locally.

The body was sent to the forensic lab in Ankeny for testing. No foul play is suspected.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to the family when something like this happens,” said Kevin Kincaid, CEO of Knoxville Hospitals and Clinics.

Kincaid said the hospital staff prepares for events like this, which do not happen often. He credited hospital staff for securing the scene and protecting the privacy of the family.

Kum And Go Robbery Suspect Arrested

On March 3, 2016 at approximately 5:50 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to the Kum and Go Station, located at 534 Church Street, on a report of a Robbery that had just occurred.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect was a white male. The suspect entered the station and threatened the clerk with a handgun. The suspect removed the cash drawer from the register and left the area on foot southbound in the alley between Moore and Sheridan Streets.

At approximately 10:08 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department located Timothy William Michal Fortney, age 19, at 901 E. Williams in Ottumwa. Fortney was arrested and charged with Violation of a Restraining Order, from an unrelated incident.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., police charged Fortney with Robbery 2nd Degree, a Class “C” Felony, in relation to the incident that occurred at the Kum and Go. Fortney does not have a current address.

Fortney is being held in the Wapello County Jail with no bond due to the Violation of Restraining Order charge.
