On this day in 1998: Johnny Cash returns to the stage

On this day in 1998, Johnny Cash returned to a Nashville stage and performed for the first time since he was stricken with Shy-Drager Syndrome the preceding October.

Shy-Drager syndrome is a progressive disorder of the central and sympathetic nervous systems which causes an excessive drop in blood pressure when the patient stands up, causing dizziness or momentary blackouts.

He joined a surprised Kris Kristofferson, who was singing at a tribute to Johnny and Waylon Jennings at the Ryman Auditorium.
