Jason Aldean Announces “Concert for the Kids”

Jason Aldean will return to his hometown of Macon, Georgia, on August 11 to perform his second “Concert For The Kids” benefit show. The concert will take place at the Macon Coliseum this year, with all proceeds once again benefitting the Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health. Last year, Jason raised more than $500,000 for the hospital, which serves as Bibb County’s only dedicated pediatric facility in central Georgia.

Suspect Arrested for 713 Wabash House Fire

On Friday, June 16, 2017, at approximately 5:11 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department received a 911 call about a disturbance taking place at 713 Wabash. Police responded and found two residents of 713 Wabash outside of the house and the house on fire.

A male suspect was on top of the front porch roof when officers arrived. The suspect then jumped off of the roof which caused the suspect to lose consciousness. The suspect was transported to a medical facility for treatment of his injuries.

The victim was identified as Alyssa Ryan, of 713 Wabash. The victim reported to police that a Violation of a Restraining Order took place as a result of this incident. Police and Fire Department Personnel are investigating the circumstances leading to the fire.

New Information

On Sunday, June 18, 2017, at approximately 10:50 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department arrested Shane Brandon Ryan, age 42, and charged him with the following offenses: Violation of a Restraining Order, a Simple Misdemeanor, with a $25,000 cash only bond after the initial arraignment.

Arson 1 st Degree, a Class “B” Felony, with a $25,000 cash only bond.

Burglary 1 st Degree, a Class “B” Felony, with a $25,000 cash only bond.

Ryan is being held in the Wapello County Jail with a $75,000 cash only bond. The Police

Department was assisted with the investigation by the Ottumwa Fire Department and the Cedar

Rapids, IA, Fire Department.

Please note the following pursuant to recent Supreme Court rulings: “A criminal charge is

merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

Luke Martin, Jr., Sentenced to 12.5 Years on Drug Charges in Connection with 2016 String of Robberies of Git-N-Go, Kum & Go, Hy-Vee, and U.S. Bank

DES MOINES, IA – On June 19, 2017, Luke Martin, Jr., age 57, of Des Moines, Iowa, appeared before Chief United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey and was sentenced 151 months in prison for drug charges related to a string of armed robberies in 2016 of Git-N-Go, Kum & Go, Hy-Vee, and U.S. Bank, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. Martin pleaded guilty in January of 2017, to conspiracy to distribute hydromorphone (Dilaudid). Martin was sentenced to three years of supervised release following his imprisonment.

Martin distributed hydromorphone to co-defendant Alexander Hamilton, who distributed it to Sarah Coe, Shelly Avery, and Chris Avery. Dilaudid use was a contributing factor to the commission of 17 robberies in March and April of 2016. Sentencings of co-defendants Alexander Hamilton, Sarah Coe, Shelly Avery, and Chris Avery are pending.

The investigation was conducted by the Des Moines Police Department, Ames Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

EBF, PC Headline Small School Softball Regional Pairings

Regional softball is just around the corner and the Class 1A, 2A, and 3A brackets have been released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

In Class 1A Region 3, Lynnville-Sully and North Mahaska drew byes in the bottom half of the bracket. L-S will await the winner of Colo-Nesco and GMG and NM will play either Montezuma or Tri-County. The first round is on Monday, July 3rd, while the second round is on Wednesday, July 5th. All games in that half of the bracket begin at7 PM. The top team in the region is #4 Newell-Fonda.

In Class 1A Region 6, BGM will host Iowa Valley in the first round on July 3rd at 7 PM. Winner of that game will play either Don Bosco or CAL in Brooklyn on the 5th. In the bottom half of the bracket, English Valleys will host Lone Tree on July 3rd at 7 PM. If the Bears win, they’ll play conference opponent Belle Plaine, who received a bye in the first round. #5 AGWSR is the top team in the bracket.

Region 7 in Class 1A in scattered with area teams. Twin Cedars will have to go on the road to face Southeast Warren on July 3rd to have a chance to play top seed and 3rd ranked Martensdale-St. Marys in the second round. Also in the top half, Melcher-Dallas, who has been hot of late, will host Seymour on the 3rd. In the bottom half of the bracket, Sigourney and Moravia both received byes and home games in the second round. Sigourney will play either Winfield-Mount Union or Keota on July 5th and Moravia will line up against either New London or Moulton-Udell.

In Class 2A, Region 6 includes the top area team in the class in Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The Rockets, ranked #3 in the latest rankings, are the top seed and will face either Cardinal or Van Buren in Eddyville on Wednesday, July 5th at 7 PM. Should they advance to the semifinals, Pekin could be their opponent. The Panthers will play Danville on the 5th in Packwood.

Pella Christian received the top seed in Class 2A Region 7. The 8th ranked Eagles will play either Woodward-Granger or Panorama in Pella on July 5th at 7 PM. Pleasantville is also in the top half of the bracket and they’ll face Des Moines Christian on the road on the 5th at 5:30 PM.

Finally, in Class 3A Region 7, PCM will host Chariton in the first round, while Albia got the #2 seed in the bracket and will host Central Decatur in the first round. Both of those games are on Wednesday, July 5th at 7 PM. #5 Solon is the top team in the bracket.

Midland Teams Up with Tim McGraw for “Dixieland Delight”

Midland didn’t just get to open for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill at their recent “Soul2Soul Tour” stop in Edmonton, Canada; the band actually got to sing with McGraw backstage at the show. In a video posted on Tim’s Facebook page Thursday (6/15), Midland can be seen huddled backstage with McGraw and his band as they perform a rendition of Alabama’s“Dixieland Delight.” The video can be seen here.

June 19th: On This Day

On this day in 2006, Taylor Swift released her debut single, “Tim McGraw”, to country radio. The song was the debut single and first published song recorded by Swift and was the lead single from her self-titled debut album.

The single received critical acclaim and helped begin Swift’s rise to fame. It peaked at number six on the US Hot Country Songs chart and number 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The track was Certified Platinum by the RIAA and has sold more than one million copies since its release.

 

Details Revealed About Shania Twain’s CMHOF Exhibit

Details have been revealed surrounding Shania Twain’s new exhibit opening at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on June 30. The exhibit, dubbed Shania Twain: Rock This Country, will examine Shania’s life and career and will include several artifacts detailing her rise to megastardom. Some of the artifacts on display include the hooded leather coat and fur-trimmed boots she wore on the cover of her debut self-titled album, as well as the complete ensemble from her 1999 music video for “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”

Russell Dickerson Announces Debut Album

Newcomer Russell Dickerson has announced the release of his debut studio album, Yours, out October 13. The new album will include several songs from Dickerson’s latest five-track EP, including the title track and current Top 50 single, “Yours.”

 

  • Russell is stoked about his first full length album, saying, “The support from my fans is what has brought me this far. The Yours EP has changed my life, and I cannot wait to see what the Yours album will bring!”
  • Dickerson will celebrate another milestone on July 10 when he makes his morning TV debut performing “Yours” on NBC’s Today show.

Man Accused of Killing Parents to Undergo Mental Evaluation

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A man accused of killing his parents in Davenport will be undergoing a mental health evaluation.

Court records say a judge granted a defense motion last week for 21-year-old Sean Freese. He’s pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. Authorities say he shot to death 58-year-old Kevin Freese and 57-year-old Donna Freese on Oct. 5 at the home they shared.

Sean Freese’s trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 2, assuming he is found competent for trial. He remains jailed pending $1 million bail.
