Ford In Stewart-Hass Racing’s Future

Stewart-Haas Racing announced Wednesday that it would move from Chevrolet to Ford beginning with the 2017 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The four-car team –presently comprised of drivers Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Danica Patrick and Tony Stewart – will compete with horsepower from Roush Yates Engines. S-H-R has campaigned Chevrolets since it was founded in 2009. The organization has thirty wins over the past seven seasons.

Stewart won his third championship, as an owner-driver, in 2011 and Harvick followed with another title three years later.

Iowa Basketball Falls In Upset Loss To Wisconsin

IOWA CITY – The Carver-Hawkeye crowd was ready to be heard even before the tip against their BIG 10 rival Wisconsin Badgers. The Hawkeyes haven’t had much luck doing battle with the Badgers as of late, losing five in straight matches. But this game was billed differently with the #8 ranked Hawks walking into the gym as the favorites.

The first half lived up the pregame rival type hype. The Badgers of Wisconsin held a mere one point lead at the half way mark. Peter Jok stole the first half show knocking down 3 of 4 from three point land. His badger counterpart, Bronson Koenig would answer with a couple buckets of his own behind the arc. The back and forth contest would ensue through the first half. Hawkeye leading scorer, Jarrod Uthoff, was quite only playing 10 first half minutes due to foul trouble. Jok would make up for Uthoff’s absence scoring half of Iowa’s points with 17 big ones.

The second half started quickly as Uthoff would be well rested and come out firing with five points in the first three minutes. The badgers were forced to take a team time out to slow Iowa’s momentum. Wisconsin would answer with a couple buckets of their own. The second half was much like the first trading buckets back and forth. At times both teams would secure slight leads that wouldn’t last long. Adam Woodbury’s height would be biggest difference as the Hawks kept staying in the game with second chance opportunities. Woody, as the team affectionately calls, would have 18 boards, 10 of which were offensive. In the end, the Hawks couldn’t put a run to match the Badgers down the stretch. Jok and Uthoff went cold missing a few open looks that would normally be expected to fall.

As the gap grew, a few timely three point buclets from the Badgers were too much for Iowa to overcome. The Hawkeyes lost their 6th straight contest against Wisconsin and lost their first home game in almost a year, 67-59.

There were some opportunities says Coach McCaffrey “I thought we got great shot opportunities. I thought 14 turnovers contributed to that. I can’t remember what the breakdown was in the first half versus second half. I know I think we had eight the first half, six in the second half, I think. But six turnovers is too many. Eight is way too many against a team that’s playing half-court man. We’ve got to do better than that, but we got a little hesitant at times.”

The Hawkeyes will now look to get off the two game losing streak against another Big 10 rivals in Ohio State Sunday on CBS.

McCaffrey says this being in the national spotlight is a great motivator “It’s a great opportunity. We haven’t played well in the last two games, yet we have done some good things in those two games.”

The game is scheduled for a 3:00pm tip-off and can be heard on 104.9 KBOE with the pregame at 2 PM.

The two teamed up to entertain guests onboard during its flight from Nashville to Memphis with an acoustic in-flight performance of their duet single, “Think Of You.”

Oskaloosa School Board And Oskaloosa Education Association Exchanging Proposals

The Oskaloosa School Board and the Oskaloosa Education Association will be exchanging initial proposals for bargaining a future Agreement between the two parties in public meetings to be held on Monday, February 29, at 4PM in the Board Room of the George Daily Auditorium, 1800 North 3rd Street, Oskaloosa.
The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Oskaloosa Community School District has been moved from Tuesday, March 8, to Monday, March 7.  It will still be held in the George Daily Auditorium

Ty Dillon To Sub For Stewart At Atlanta Motor Speedway

Stewart-Haas Racing has confirmed that Ty Dillon, who drives for Richard Childress Racing in the X-FINITY Series, will sub for the injured Tony Stewart in this weekend’s Folds of Honor Quik-Trip 500 in Hampton, Georgia. Stewart is recovering from back surgery performed three weeks ago after he was injured January 31st while driving dune buggies as he vacationed in California. There’s no timetable for his return to competition.

Dillon, who turns 24 on Saturday, was named Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year in 2012 and is starting his third full season in the X-FINITY Series. Brian Vickers, who drove Stewart’s Number-14 Chevrolet to a twenty-sixth-place finish in the season-opening Daytona 500, will return for the third March 6th in Las Vegas. The team has not announced its driver lineup beyond that.

VIVIAN, La. (Feb. 23) — The third round of USMTS Winter Speedweeks happens at the Ark-La-Tex Speedway this Thursday

–Saturday, Feb. 25-27, for the 5th Annual USMTS Cajun Clash presented by Horseshoe Bossier City, and this one is shaping up to be the biggest one of the year so far.

And comparing this week’s show to the previous two weekends of racing in Texas, that’s saying a lot.

Four different winners captured the checkered flag in the previous six nights of racing to kick off the 2016 campaign for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental, and the marquee list of drivers attending this week’s mega-event has gotten even more powerful.

On the strength of his two victories last Thursday and Saturday at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway, Iowa’s Zack VanderBeek comes into this week’s tripleheader as the points leader in the Production Jars Southern Region powered by Day Motor Sports.

But the Z-Man’s lead is a mere three points over defending USMTS national champ Jason Hughes, who captured theSaturday night finale on opening weekend at the Shady Oaks Speedway.

Close behind is Cade Dillard. The 2014 USMTS Rookie of the Year has yet to visit the winner’s circle in the first six events, but he’s finished no worse than seventh this season.

Ryan Gustin-a two-time winner already this year-sits fourth in the rankings, followed by Jesse Sobbing, Scott Drake, Ben Kates, Joe Duvall and Austin Arneson while Philip Houston and Bobby Malchus are tied for the tenth position.

Others chasing their first win of the season this weekend include Dereck Ramirez, Casey Arneson, Kyle Strickler, Steve Whiteaker Jr., rookie points leader Tyler Wolff, Brock and Cody Bauman, Johnny and Stormy Scott, Chase Jupe, Clyde Dunn Jr., Billy Vogel, Chadd Howell and Steve Miller.

Drivers expected to join the already stellar field competing in the Production Jars Southern Region include Todd Shute, Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, Fito and Jake Gallardo, Chris Brown, Austin Siebert and Rodney Sanders returning to the USMTS circuit after a week of racing late models in Florida.

As always, the “Land of Three Wide” high-banked clay oval boasts some of the nation’s toughest local competitors such as Jason Ingalls, Lucas Lee and Chris Henigan who captured both of his two career USMTS wins here.

In 2014, Cade Dillard posted his career-first USMTS victory on Thursday night during the 8th Annual Winter Nationals, Rodney Sanders claimed Friday’s feature and Kelly Shryock ended the season on a high note with a trip to the winner’s circle on Saturday. All three days of the ninth running of the event was rained out this past November.

Other USMTS winners here include Hughes, Johnny Scott and Duke Whiseant.

Wednesday’s practice is from 6 to 9 p.m. with free admission to the grandstands and $20 pit passes.

Thursday’s racing program starts at 7 p.m. with $2,000 to win for USMTS Modifieds, $500 to win Limited Mods and $300 to win Factory Stocks. Grandstand tickets are $15 with kids ages 12 and under getting in for free. Pit passes are $35.

On Friday, the green flag unfurls at 7 p.m. with USMTS Modifieds competing for $3,000 to win while Limited Mods will battle for $600 to win and Factory Stocks $400 to win. Grandstand tickets are $20 with kids ages 12 and under getting in for free. Pit passes are $35.

Saturday’s finale at Gene Boyter’s popular high-banked oval gets started at 6 p.m. USMTS Modifieds will race for $4,000 to win with Limited Mods paying $700 to win, Factory Stocks $500 to win and Pro-Mods joining the card for $400 to win.

Hy-Vee Is Recalling Hy-Vee 2-Ounce Macadamia Nuts For Potential Salmonella

Hy-Vee, Inc., based in West Des Moines, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling Hy-Vee 2-ounce Macadamia Nuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more sever illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Hy-Vee 2-ounce Macadamia Nuts were distributed to all of Hy-Vee’s 240 grocery stores across its eight-state region of Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The product comes in a blue-colored 2-ounce plastic bag and it was sold between July 2, 2015 and Feb. 3, 2016. The potential for contamination was brought to Hy-Vee’s attention after the product’s supplier, Marathon Ventures, Inc., issued a voluntary recall on various retail and bulk packages containing raw macadamia nuts. The voluntary recall was issued after Salmonella positive product was found during routine product sampling.
Customers who purchased Hy-Vee 2-ounce Macadamia Nuts between July 2, 2015 and Feb. 3, 2016, should dispose of the product or return it to their local Hy-Vee store for a full refund.
