On this day in 2011, Justin Moore released his sophomore album Outlaws Like Me. The album included three singles,”Bait a Hook”,”Til My Last Day”, and “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”, which hit number one on the charts and was Certified Platinum.
These three hits helped make Outlaws Like Me reach Gold Certification.

MORAVIA – The Appanoose County city of Moravia is advising residents to boil their drinking water following repairs to a water main Wednesday morning. The entire town will be without water as the city replaces a section of pipe in the 800 block of W. North St. Repairs should be completed sometime Wednesday and water pressure restored. However, pressure losses can allow potentially harmful bacteria to enter the water supply. Starting after repairs on Wednesday, residents should boil their drinking water until testing shows the water is safe to drink.
Let the water boil for one minute, then let it cool before using. Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Tap water can be used for bathing and similar purposes.
The city will disinfect the water and flush the system after completing repairs. City staff will collect two sets of water samples for testing. The city or DNR will notify residents when water is safe to drink and the advisory is lifted.

History was made in Oskaloosa on Monday night. In a classic pitchers’ duel, Oskaloosa senior Kylee Silliman conquered Pella Christian with a no-hitter to lead the Indians to a 1-0 victory. The loss avenges one of Osky’s conference losses from earlier in the season.
The game was back-and-forth as Silliman and Pella Christian ace Emma Schnell traded clean innings through four. As the 5th inning started, Silliman had allowed just one baserunner on a hit-by-pitch, and Schnell had allowed two hits to Osky’s Aubrey Miller.
When the bottom of the 5th rolled around, Oskaloosa got a one-out walk issued to 8th grader Ava VandeWall. After a flyout by Alexis Groet, Devan Welch came up with two outs and socked a fly ball to deep right field, just out of the reach of Eagle right fielder Hanna Vos. VandeWall would score, and that would be the last baserunner the Indians would get on base.
Silliman would do the rest with her defense strong behind her. She would strike out nine, including the last batter of the game, to complete the no-hitter.
Pella Christian defeated Oskaloosa earlier this season in Pella, 7-0, in what has been Osky’s worst outing this year in softball. With this win, the Indians have positive momentum heading into a huge week.
Tuesday night, the girls are back in action against three-time defending state champions Dallas Center-Grimes on the road. Wednesday it will be a home game against Grinnell for the Indians. Thursday, the hits keep coming as Osky goes on the road to face Pella in a single varsity game. If those conference matchups aren’t enough, Oskaloosa will be facing Class 5A schools Des Moines Lincoln and Iowa City High on Friday at the Solon tournament.
The big week comes just days after Oskaloosa Head Softball Coach Jay Harms locked up his 800th career victory as a head coach in varsity softball, an achievement he reached Saturday in a 7-0 victory over Bondurant-Farrar.
The Indians enter this week’s gauntlet with a record 16-3 after Silliman’s no-hit performance, and we’ll have the Dallas Center-Grimes ball game on 99.5 FM/740 AM KMZN, the KMZN mobile app, and radiokmzn.com. The action begins Tuesday night with the pregame show at 7:15 and the first pitch at 7:30.
OSKALOOSA — It’s that time of year again! United Way of Mahaska County is partnering with SIEDA, the Salvation Army, local businesses, and the Oskaloosa Community School District to launch another year of Operation Backpack. 2016 marks the eighth year of the program, and United Way says they are confident that this year will be another that full represents the Oskaloosa community’s commitment to their children and schools.
In the past three years alone, around a thousand backpacks full of school supplies have been given to children in need in Mahaska County. These bags of supplies ensure students are adequately prepared for the upcoming school year and more confident in their ability to succeed in their education.
Operation Backpack donation boxes will once again find their way to local businesses in the Oskaloosa Community on or around July 6. Donating is quick, easy and convenient with multiple collection sites around Oskaloosa.
On July 1, a complete list of collection sites and supply needs will be posted at UnitedWayMahaska.org/OpBackpack.

On July 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., donation boxes will be brought to the North Hy-Vee parking lot for the United Way’s annual Stuff the Bus event. 2016 will be the sixth year of Stuff the Bus, a program that supports Operation Backpack. The event gives community members one last chance to donate to Operation Backpack and helps fill the high demand for supplies. During the event, donation boxes full of school supplies will be used to completely fill an actual school bus.
In the weeks following the event, many volunteers will work to sort donations, fill hundreds of backpacks with the necessary school supplies, and hand them out to applicants. Applications to receive a backpack can be found in the Oskaloosa Shopper, at SIEDA, United Way of Mahaska County, End of Month Meals locations, Summer Lunch Program locations, Crisis Intervention Services, and Love INC.
The deadline for applications is July 29. /Operation Backpack and Stuff the Bus are successful only because of the support they have from the entire community. Whether it’s donating or volunteering, both programs are great opportunities to make an impact in the Oskaloosa community.

► It’s Joe Gibbs Racing’s third victory at Iowa, which ties the organization for second place on the track’s win list –matching Roger Penske. Jack Roush leads with five.
► William Byron’s win Saturday night in the Camping World Truck Series race and Hornish’s victory on Sunday afternoon gave Toyota a weekend sweep at Iowa Speedway.
► Byron’s victory extends Toyota’s Truck Series domination at Iowa in recent years. The manufacturer has now won five of the last seven races – two by Timothy Peters, two by Erik Jones and now Byron’s victory on Saturday.
Kenny Chesney will perform during this year’s Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular in New York City. The two-hour special will be hosted by the Today show’s Willie Geist and Tamron Hall and will feature additional performances from Meghan Trainor, 5 Seconds of Summer and the Radio City Rockettes. The national broadcast of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular will air live on NBC at 8 PM ET.

Sam Hornish Junior made his return to NASCAR competition a memorable one Sunday afternoon with a dominating drive at Iowa Speedway to claim his fourth career victory.
On Tuesday of last week, Joe Gibbs Racing announced that Hornish would sub for Matt Tifft, who was being treated for a disc condition in his back. Five days later, Hornish had the Number-18 Toyota in Victory Lane after leading 183 of the 250 laps contested. Before Sunday, the last time Hornish competed in one of NASCAR’s national series was last fall’s Sprint Cup finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. On Sunday, he started third, had his first lead twenty-four laps into the race and led the final 111 trips around the Newton oval – beating runner-up Ty Dillon to the checkered flag by a second-and-a-half. Brad Keselowski, points leader Daniel Suarez and Alex Bowman completed the top five.
Erik Jones qualified on the pole but was forced to start at the rear of the field after unapproved body modifications to his Number-20 J-G-R Toyota. Jones never led a lap and placed twenty-seventh in the forty-car field, seven laps down to Hornish at the finish.
How dominant was Hornish? There were just sixteen cars running on the lead lap at the end of the day … Sunday’s race kicked off the second half of the 2016 regular season, which is the first year for the X-FINITY Series post-season Chase.
Just one day before celebrating his 29th birthday, Ryan Sieg finished twenty-first and holds onto the final provisional “playoff” spot – by nine points over Ross Chastain with twelve races left before the Chase opens.
