Miranda Lambert’s Pet Car Line Is Available Now

Miranda Lambert’s new pet care line— MuttNation Fueled by Miranda Lambert — is available now at pet specialty stores and online retailers. The full line includes bedding, collars, leashes, toys, apparel, and more, all designed to reflect Miranda’s signature style. The line can be found online here. The pet care line also serves a greater purpose, as a portion from every purchase goes toward funding the rescue and adoption programs of Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation.

 

·       The product line is highlighted by a collection of six plush dogs called the Rescue Mutts. Each toy pup was inspired from a real-life rescue dog and has its own adoption story.

·       The Rescue Mutts toys are particularly close to Miranda’s heart, as her own dog Delilah was her very first rescue featured in the plush collection.

With a dynasty being built, the task of reloading and remaining a major player on the national scene awaits the William Penn women’s golf team in 2016-2017.

Three consecutive league crowns, including winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships in their debut season, the Statesmen are primed for even more success this year.  They will, however, have to accomplish this success without their best player as two-time NAIA All-American Demi Coertze has graduated.  Do not fret, though, as Head Coach Nik Rule and his staff did a tremendous job in retention and recruiting.  In addition to a load of returners, a set of strong newcomers should help to produce continued winning ways.

Four all-Heart performers are back on the roster, headlined by Elise Warne (So., Melbourne, Australia, Exercise Science) who owned an 82.4 stroke average in her freshman campaign.  Miranda Keeler (Jr., Plattsmouth, Neb., Communications) (83.1 avg.), Jodi Saito (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii, Education) (83.1 avg.), and Courtney Cunningham (Sr., Muskogee, Okla., Computer Science) (83.8 avg.) earned post-season recognition last season as well and the entire crew will make a formidable quartet at the top of the lineup.

Brooke Fletcher (Jr., Atlantic, Iowa, Business Management), who had an 84.0 stroke average, came on strong at the end of 2015-2016 and will pace another talented quartet who are all poised to fight for varsity slots.  Helene Larsen (So., Viborg, Denmark, Business Management) (83.9 avg.) has been outstanding in the preseason and will actually be at the top of the lineup when the season starts.  Megan Rhoads (So., Schertz, Texas, Psychology) (84.7 avg.) and Alyssa Kerry (So., Bend, Ore., Communications) (86.7 avg.) are also expected to improve in their sophomore campaigns.

Fellow returners Jordan Postma (Jr., Marion, Iowa, Biology), Sofie Lund (So., Herning, Denmark, Psychology), Tiffany Duhon (So., Lafayette, La, Elementary Education), and Aramina Flores (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas, History/Government) will add depth to the program.

The team’s talent pool does not end with the returners as freshmen Brittany Evans (Fernley, Nev.), Deanna Peiffer (Washington, Iowa, Public Accounting), and Alexis Guimaraes (San Ramon, Calif., Psychology) are coming off incredible prep careers and will be in the mix immediately.

Schedule/Conference

The Statesmen host two events as part of a seven-tournament fall schedule, including the Midwest Intercollegiate Open in August and the William Penn Classic in October.  WPU will also leave the state four times to face some of the best teams in the nation.  Odds-on favorites to defend their Heart title, the navy and gold will likely be tested again by perennial contenders Grand View and Baker.

High-Speed Chase Ends West Of Oskaloosa

Oskaloosa, Iowa – A call came over the police radio that Iowa County Deputies were in a high-speed chase with a Fiat at approximately 100 miles-per-hour.

Law enforcement scrambled to deploy stop sticks, and the suspect avoided one set placed by Mahaska County deputies east of Oskaloosa. An Oskaloosa police officer was able to deflate the front passenger tire of the Fiat as it entered the city.

The chase proceeded through Oskaloosa at high speed before the suspect turned west onto Highway 163 from Highway 92.

A Mahaska County deputy who was in front of the suspect’s Fiat was rammed in the bumper area of his police truck. The deputy took the suspect into a ditch, where the car nearly ended up in a small pond as it came to a stop. The deputies vehicle sustained minor damage.

The suspect’s name had not been released at the time of writing, but this information will be updated, along with the list of charges the suspect may be facing and information on why the pursuit was initiated.

Race For The Chase Rols On To Michigan International Speedway

Just three Sprint Cup Series races remain in the regular season and four spots are still open on The Chase Grid for non-race winners to fill heading into Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.  Twelve drivers have been victorious thus far in 2016: Matt Kenseth, Kyle and Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Junior, Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart and Chris Buescher.  All are within the requisite top thirty of the standings, which currently leaves a maximum of four post-season spots available based on the point standings.  Ryan Newman holds a thirty-five-point lead over Trevor Bayne in the fight for what would be the final “playoff” spot.  In this year’s first race at Michigan on June 12th, Newman finished eleventh and Bayne placed fifteenth … If the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup began today, Austin Dillon, rookie Chase Elliott and Jamie McMurray would hold the three other spots.  Any driver who hasn’t yet won but reaches Victory Lane in one of the next three races would qualify for the post-season, provided that driver was among the top thirty in points, and would reduce the number of spots available based on the regular-season standings.

On this day in 2002, Toby Keith’s seventh studio album, Unleashed, began it’s fourth week at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. The album produced three #1’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)”, “Who’s Your Daddy?”, and “Beer for My Horses.”

The album would go on to be Certified 4x Multi-Platinum.

ACM’s Merle Haggard Spirit Award

The Academy of Country Music (ACM) has announced the inception of the ACM Merle Haggard Spirit Award. The award will be presented to an artist whose career reflects the integrity and steadfast spirit embodied by the late Merle Haggard. The inaugural ACM Merle Haggard Spirit Award will be handed out at the 10th Annual ACM Honors ceremony to a recipient still to be announced.

 

·       Lady Antebellum will host the 10th ACM Honors, which takes place on August 30 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The ceremony will also make its television debut on September 9 at 9:00 PM ET on CBS.

Serious Crash On 163 Has Claimed One Life

Mahaska County, Iowa – KNIA/KRLS originally reported that one person has died as the result of a two-vehicle crash along Highway 163 at approximately 4:09pm Monday afternoon, near Bayard Avenue.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, vehicle 1, a 2001 Saturn SL driven by Cody Allen Kline, 21, of Cedar, was eastbound on Highway 163 when it collided with the rear of the second vehicle. Kline was transported to Pella Regional Hospital.

The second vehicle was also eastbound on Highway 163, when it was struck by the first vehicle. The second vehicle is listed as a 2012 Peterbilt driven by 56 year-old William M. Stone. No address for Stone is listed.

Deceased is Amanda Marie Simms, 23, of Cedar. Simms, which the crash report says was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to the state medical examiner by Bates Funeral Home. Simms was a passenger in the Saturn driven by Kline.

“Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash”, says the Iowa State Patrol report. The crash remains under investigation.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, along with Pella Rural Fire, Pella Ambulance, and Pella Police.

Kevin Harvick Was “The Closer” Sunday At Bristol

Kevin Harvick lived up to an old nickname of “The Closer” on Sunday at Bristol, taking command in the second half of the race and leading the final seventy-one laps to notch his second victory of the season.  The race ended some twenty-three hours after it originally started on Saturday night, when just forty-eight laps were run before rain moved in and pushed the event to a late-afternoon green flag on Sunday.  Kyle Busch started third and was dominant throughout the first half of the race, leading 184 of the first 250 laps.  But what appeared to be a broken part on the suspension of his Number-18 Toyota sent the car spinning across the track.  Contact from Justin Allgaier ended Busch’s day with a thirty-ninth-place finish.  Harvick entered the fray soon after, charging from his Number-24 starting spot to grab his first lead at Lap-286 of five hundred.  Harvick ran consistently among the top five the rest of the way, passing Denny Hamlin seventy-one laps from the finish and never looking back to record his thirty-third career win – loosening Joe Gibbs Racing’s tight hold on short-track competition in 2016.  Before Sunday, J-G-R had won all three races run on ovals less than one mile in length … Harvick’s margin of victory over runner-up Ricky Stenhouse Junior was two seconds with Hamlin finishing third, Austin Dillon fourth and rookie Chris Buescher fifth – which lifted him into thirtieth place in the point standings as he now becomes eligible for a post-season Chase berth with his win at Pocono earlier this month.

Relaxed And Vengeful – Carrie Underwood
