October 4th: On This Day

On this day in 2000, the 34th Annual CMA Awards took place. The show was hosted by Reba McEntire from the Grand Ole Opry House. The Dixie Chicks were the big winners of the night, taking home four awards. The trio received the biggest honor of the evening with entertainer of the year, as well as the vocal group of the year, their album Fly was named album of the year, and their video “Goodbye Earl” won video of the year.

Hunter Hayes Releases New Single

Hunter Hayes is hitting radio this week with his brand-new single, “Yesterday’s Song.” The song is the lead single from Hunter’s untitled third studio album, and it’s also one of the three tracks he previewed on social media on his 25th birthday last month. The other two tracks he previewed were “Amen” and “Young Blood.”

 

·       With his new music, Hayes says he’s really been able to focus on his instincts and creativity, rather than worry about which goal he’s trying to reach next. He shares, “I’ve waited a long time to get this new music out, and ‘Yesterday’s Song’ really captures that free feeling, that joyous realization that you’re moving on and starting this fresh, new chapter.”

Luke Bryan Opens Up About Raising A Teenager

Life around Luke Bryan’s house has changed a lot since he started looking after his 14-year-old nephew, Til, following the death of Luke’s brother-in-law in 2014. Bryan tells People, “We woke up and had a teenager in our midst, but we love it. It’s nothing but positive.” Luke – who has two boys of his own (8-year-old Bo and 6-year-old Tate) – also admits that having a Til there has introduced him to raising teenager much sooner than he had expected. Bryan says aside from keeping close tabs on Til’s grades in school and how much time he spends on social media, he is also helping him prepare for adulthood. Luke says, “It’s interesting because he’ll be a boy one minute and he’ll act like a man the next, so you just try to help him make good decisions and study hard and be respectful and try to do your best to raise them right.”

Miranda Reveals New Album Cover

Miranda Lambert took to Instagram on Friday (9/30) to reveal the cover art for her new album, The Weight Of These Wings. The cover features a black-and-white photo of Lambert dressed in a long, flowing gown, on what appears to be a farm. Miranda is carrying a guitar case in the picture, as she stands in front of a large pair of wings branching out of a heart directly behind the singer. A translucent sepia-toned frame is placed over the image, with Lambert’s name and the album’s title written across the top and bottom.

 

·       In Miranda’s post, the album cover appears on a Polaroid picture, with the title and release date — November 18 – written in marker across the bottom.

On The Track, Next Stop is Dover International Speedway

On The Track, Next Stop is Dover International Speedway for the third race of the post-season Chase, Sunday’s Citizen Soldier 400.  The Sixteen Challengers are traveling along a path that will ultimately lead to a championship for one with 2,877.58 “Miles-2-Miami” left before Ford Championship Weekend in November.  Four of the sixteen competitors on The Chase Grid will be dropped from title contention before the series heads to Charlotte next week.  Drivers currently occupying positions thirteen through sixteen are Jamie McMurray, Austin Dillon, three-time champion Tony Stewart and rookie Chris Buescher.  Kyle Larson holds the final provisional spot to transfer into the Round of Twelve, five points clear of the cutoff.

September 30th: On This Day

On this day in 2003, Martina McBride released her seventh album, Martina. The album hit number one on the country album charts, and number seven on the US album charts. It produced four singles with “This One’s for the Girls”, “In My Daughter’s Eyes”, “How Far”, and “God’s Will”.

The album has since been Certified Double Platinum by the RIAA.

Dolly Parton Makes Chart History

Dolly Parton has made even more history thanks to her collaborative rendition of “Jolene” with a cappella group Pentatonix. The new version of Parton’s classic has debuted at #18 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, making Dolly the only artist to notch a Top 20 hit on the chart in each of the last six decades.

 

·       The song also sits at #4 on the Country Streaming Songs chart with 2.6 million U.S. streams and additionally finds #7 spot on the Country Digital Song Sales chart with 18,000 downloads sold in its first week out, according to Nielsen Music.

·       A video of the a cappella version of “Jolene” has gone viral with more than 10 million views so far. That video can be seen here.

Strait Out Of The Box: Part 2 – George Strait

George Strait has announced the release of his Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 compilation, available exclusively at Wal-Mart on November 18. The three-disc, 56-track collection features 36 hit singles — including 26 chart-toppers — as well as two brand new songs, his latest radio single “Goin’ Goin’ Gone” and 18 album cuts, all personally chosen by  King George.

 

·       Spanning 20 years of Strait’s career from 1996 to 2016, Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 follows the success of his 1995 compilation, Strait Out of the Box, which has sold more than 8 million copies to date.

September 29th: On This Day

On this day in 1993, Willie Nelson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Nelson was inducted for being not just one of the most recognizable acts in country music, but an American icon.

In his career, to date, Nelson has released  sixty-eight studio albums, ten live albums,and thirty-seven compilations. Nelson has sold more than 40 million albums in the United States alone.
