Keith Urban Lands Seventh Top Country Album Number One

Keith Urban has a new number one album. As we told you, his latest release, “The Speed of Now Part 1” debuted at number seven on the all-genre “Billboard” 200 Album chart, which means it also lands at number one on the Top Country Albums chart.

The record is now his seventh number one country album chart, with all seven debuting at number one.

Elsewhere on the chart…

Lee Brice’s “One Of Them Girls” is number one on the Country Airplay chart, his seventh number one single. It’s also his third consecutive number one, following “I Hope You’re Happy,” his duet with Carly Pearce, and “Rumor.”

Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope” tops the Hot Country Songs chart for a 10th week.

Today in 1976, Jerry Lee Lewis was arrested. He was celebrating his birthday by popping off a few rounds on his .357 Magnum. Two of those rounds hit bass player Butch Owens square in the chest. Amazingly, Owens survived and “The Killer” was later charged with setting-off a firearm within city limits.
Today in 1980, Ronnie Milsap released his “Greatest Hits” collection.
Today in 1984, Keith Whitley made his debut on the country charts with “Turn Me On To Love.”
Today in 1987, the Judds’ “Christmas Time With The Judds” project and the “Just Us” album by Alabama arrived in stores.
Today in 1993, Mark Chesnutt won the CMA Horizon Award.
Today in 1993, Vince Gill had a lot to celebrate. Not only was his album, “I Still Believe In You,” certified double platinum, but he also took home 5 trophies (including Entertainer of the Year) at the CMA Awards.
Today in 1993, Willie Nelson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Trisha Yearwood Shares Personal Video For “I’ll Carry You Home”

Trisha Yearwood performed her song “I’ll Carry You Home” during the In Memoriam tribute at the ACM Awards earlier this month. Well, now she’s sharing a very personal video for the song.

The video features home movie clips of Trisha growing up in Georgia with her family, and even includes footage of her being brought home from the hospital.

“‘I’ll Carry You Home’ is almost like a prayer,” she shares. “For me, it’s very much about the people in my life that have my back, and also my strong spiritual belief that God’s got me, no matter what. I believe that. It’s really like a prayer,” adding, “It’s just one of the most beautiful songs that I’ve heard.”

Today in 1956, RCA Records credited Elvis Presley with selling more than 10-million records in his first year with the label.
Today in 1968, Jeannie C. Riley went to #1 on the Billboard country singles chart with “Harper Valley P.T.A.”
Today in 1974, Waylon Jennings’ “I’m A Ramblin’ Man” resided at #1 on the Billboard country chart.
Today in 1983, the “Man Of Steel” album by Hank Williams Jr. was released.
Today in 1984, George Strait’s album “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind” arrived in stores.
Today in 1991, Garth Brooks’ album, Ropin’ the Wind, became the first country music album to debut at # 1 on Billboard’s pop album chart. The project also took the top spot on the country albums chart. In fact, Brooks’ two previous albums, “No Fences” and “Garth Brooks,” held the # 2 and #5 positions on the country chart at the same time.

Today in 2014, Dierks Bentley raised $335,000 for charity with his annual Miles & Music For Kids motorcycle ride and concert in Nashville. The lineup also features Chris Young, Kip Moore, Randy Houser and Jon Pardi.

Carrie Underwood Announces Holiday Special

Carrie Underwood’s new holiday album “My Gift” drops today and she’s found even more ways to bring holiday cheer to her fans. The singer just announced she’ll star in an exclusive holiday special for HBO Max.

The special will have Carrie performing songs from “My Gift,” including originals and holiday classics, and will feature a live orchestra and choir.

“The journey of writing and recording this album started last year when I finished my tour and we could have never anticipated the circumstances we would be in this year,” Carrie shares. “Creating this album has been good for my heart, and I’m thrilled to get to share it with the world and to bring it to life with Playtone and HBO Max.”

The special is expected to air sometime this holiday season.

Today in 1993, the “Something Up My Sleeve” album by Suzy Bogguss was released.
Today in 1998, it was revealed that Johnny Cash had suffered a recurrence of pneumonia less than a year after nearly dying from the ailment. He would receive similar treatments repeatedly thereafter, and rebounded every time, before eventually dying of diabetes-related causes.
Today in 1998, Tim McGraw was #1 on “Radio & Records’” Country Top 50 chart with his single, “Where the Green Grass Grows.”
Today in 2000, Brooks & Dunn announced preliminary plans for their inaugural “Neon Circus & Wild West Show” tour. The shows, which also included Toby Keith, Montgomery Gentry and Keith Urban, went on to become one of the hottest tickets of the year.
Today in 2000, Aaron Tippin’s “People Like Us” album was certified gold.

Today in 2017, Dolly Parton collected gold singles from the RIAA for “I Will Always Love You” and “Jolene,” plus a platinum award for “9 To 5.”

Miranda Lambert Picks “Settling Down” As Her New Single

Miranda Lambert has chosen “Settling Down” as her new single from her latest album “Wild Card.”

In announcing the single, Miranda shared, “This one’s for those of us that have that restless roaming spirit, but also love the comfort of home.”

Miranda thinks folks can relate to the song, because, “they have this gypsy spirit, and they want to be rock ‘n’ roll, but they also love having a morning at home with their bare feet on their own kitchen floor.”

She adds, “It’s an amazing struggle to deal with actually. I don’t know if I’ll ever get too comfortable in one or the other.”

Thomas Rhett Performs For Healthcare Workers

New Entertainer of the Year Thomas Rhett spent some time celebrating healthcare workers recently. The singer shared some video of his recent virtual chat and performance for essential workers.

“I recently got to meet some amazing healthcare workers via @cisco Webex,” he shares. “Truly inspired by the hard work & dedication they put in. Grateful I was able to play a few songs for them too.”

As seen in the clip, Thomas performed “Be A Light” for the frontline workers.
