  • Today in 1999, Trisha Yearwood and Robert Reynolds filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Fast forward to 2000, and Garth Brooks filed for divorce from estranged wife Sandy Mahl. Garth and Trisha then began dating – she took a four-year hiatus from music. Garth proposed in front of 7,000 fans in Bakersfield, California and she accepted without hesitation in May 2005, and they were married the following December.
  • Today in 2004, “Friday Night Lights,” featuring Tim McGraw’s movie debut, has its Los Angeles premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. McGraw attends along with Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thornton, Serena Williams and David Duchovny.
  • Today in 2005, Trace Adkins’ “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” video debuted on CMT.

The Grand Ole Opry House Kicks Off 95th Birthday Celebration

After seven months of no audiences due to the coronavirus, Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House finally welcomed guests back on Saturday, for a special show kicking off a month-long celebration of the Opry’s 95th birthday.

The limited capacity audience of about 500 were all wore masks and socially distanced, and for their efforts they got to enjoy performances by Vince Gill, Dierks Bentley, Terri Clark and Lorrie Morgan.

Lorrie treated Saturday’s audience to performances of “Something In Red” and Skeeter Davis’ “End Of The World,” while Terri Clark performed”Better Things To Do” and Barbara Mandrell’s “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool.” Dierks, who was backed by his band, performed “Burning Man,” and Faron Young’s “Going Steady.”

Meanwhile, Vince kicked the night off with three songs he had never performed before, including Elvis’ Presley’s “In The Ghetto,” a tribute to its songwriter Mac Davis, who passed away last week,” as well as Roy Acuff’s “Night Train To Memphis” and Jimmy Newman’s “Cry Cry Darlin’.”

  • Today in 1925, WSM Radio in Nashville started broadcasting. One of its first programs was “WSM Barn Dance” which was renamed “Grand Ole Opry” two years later. It became the longest running radio show in history.
  • Today in 1970, Loretta Lynn’s classic single, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” was released.
  • Today in 1970, George Jones and Tammy Wynette welcomed their only child, Tamala Georgette Jones, in Lakeland, Florida.
  • Today in 1977, Glen Campbell’s “Southern Nights” album was certified gold.
  • Today in 1981, Eddie Rabbitt’s album, “Step By Step,” was certified gold.
  • Today in 1984, the album, “Don’t Cheat In Our Home Town,” by Ricky Skaggs was certified gold.

Blake Shelton & More Receive People’s Choice Award Nods

Nominees for the 2020 E!’s People’s Choice Awards were announced, with Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett and Kane Brown among this year’s country nominees.

While all are nominated in the country category, Blake also received a nod in the all-genre The Male Artist of 2020 category, while Dan + Shay was recognized in The Group of 2020 category.

Voting in all categories is open now through October 23rd. The 2020 E!’s People’s Choice Awards air November 15th at 8 pm. Check out some of the nominees below:

First CMT Music Award Performers Announced

The CMT Music Awards are finally happening later this month and the first set of performers for the telecast have now been revealed. Performers for the show include Ashley McBryde, Dan + Shay, Kane Brown, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan and Maren Morris.

As we told you, Dan + Shay, Luke Combs, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, Ashley McBryde, and Kelsea Ballerini lead the list of nominees with three a piece.

Fan voting is now open and will run until 12 pm ET on October 12th. The 2020 CMT Awards air October 21st on six networks including CMT, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop and TV Land.

Kane Brown Drops “Worldwide Beautiful” Video

Kane Brown is sharing his vision of the future in the new video for his latest single “Worldwide Beautiful.”

In case you missed it, Kane just released the clip, which depicts a group of children who seem to bring hope to a world devastated by their parents, which begins to bloom again by the end of the video.

Kane even gets personal in the clip, with his daughter Kingsley Rose making a cameo at the end.
