Pipes-Goulsbra Wins Award For Keeping Effort

Oskaloosa–Caleb Pipes-Goulsbra (Jr., Lincoln, England, Exercise Science) was simply trying to help out his old team by playing Saturday night, but because of his tremendous outing, the ‘retired’ goalkeeper has been named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

A first-time winner, Pipes-Goulsbra was no longer a member of the soccer team, having transitioned over to football this fall.  However, he accepted the offer by Head Coach Jaymee Highcock to start; Highcock was in need of a keeper after his starter went down with an injury.  It was a great move by both coach and player as Pipes-Goulsbra stopped 16 shots as part of a 1-1 tie with #10 Baker.

In the draw, he tallied five saves in the first half, seven in the second, and added four more in extra play.  The save tally is the largest in program history over the past 10 years.

The weekly award is the first for the program.

Chase Moving Into Second Round

The 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup rolls on from Delaware to North Carolina for Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  It’s the opening race in the Round of Twelve, with the remaining drivers on The Chase Grid hoping to avoid elimination when the field is further reduced to eight in three weeks.  All twelve drivers have had their championship points reset to three thousand, and any one of the twelve that wins a race in the next three weeks will automatically advance to the Round of Eight that opens October 30th at Martinsville Speedway … Chase drivers have won the fall race at Charlotte in ten of the twelve years the post-season title format has been in place.  The only two non-chase drivers to win during that stretch are Jamie McMurray in 2010 and Brad Keselowski in 2013 … Kyle Busch, the top seed in this year’s Chase, has never won a points-paying Cup Series race in Charlotte.  He’s been to Victory Lane there a combined fourteen times in the X-FINITY and Camping World Truck Series … Of the drivers still in contention for the 2016 Sprint Cup championship, Jimmie Johnson has the most wins at C-M-S: seven … Martin Truex Junior will roll into Charlotte with a full head of steam, having won two of the three post-season races so far.  And, oh by the way … earlier this season, he won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway after leading all but eight of the four hundred laps run … Truex entered this year’s Chase as the Number-6 seed but ended the first round Number-1.

Hunter Hayes Releases New Single

Hunter Hayes is hitting radio this week with his brand-new single, “Yesterday’s Song.” The song is the lead single from Hunter’s untitled third studio album, and it’s also one of the three tracks he previewed on social media on his 25th birthday last month. The other two tracks he previewed were “Amen” and “Young Blood.”

·       With his new music, Hayes says he’s really been able to focus on his instincts and creativity, rather than worry about which goal he’s trying to reach next. He shares, “I’ve waited a long time to get this new music out, and ‘Yesterday’s Song’ really captures that free feeling, that joyous realization that you’re moving on and starting this fresh, new chapter.”

Luke Bryan Opens Up About Raising A Teenager

Life around Luke Bryan’s house has changed a lot since he started looking after his 14-year-old nephew, Til, following the death of Luke’s brother-in-law in 2014. Bryan tells People, “We woke up and had a teenager in our midst, but we love it. It’s nothing but positive.” Luke – who has two boys of his own (8-year-old Bo and 6-year-old Tate) – also admits that having a Til there has introduced him to raising teenager much sooner than he had expected. Bryan says aside from keeping close tabs on Til’s grades in school and how much time he spends on social media, he is also helping him prepare for adulthood. Luke says, “It’s interesting because he’ll be a boy one minute and he’ll act like a man the next, so you just try to help him make good decisions and study hard and be respectful and try to do your best to raise them right.”
