This day in 1949, Hank Williams, Sr. made his debut on the Grand Ole Opry. He sang “Lovesick Blues” and got an unprecedented six encores. Ironically, Opry bigwigs had been reluctant to book him at first, because his wild lifestyle was at odds with the Opry’s clean and wholesome image.
