On this day in 1979, Kenny Rogers scored his ninth Billboard #1 with “Coward of the County”. The song was released as the second single from the album Kenny. “Coward of the County” helped make Kenny a Multi-Platinum album.

The single itself would become a Certified Gold 45, making it one of Rogers’ biggest hits.
