Randy Travis & Wife Discuss Memoir On “Today”

Randy Travis and his wife Mary visited “Today” to talk about his new memoir, “Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life,” which comes out today, and Mary opened up about just how big a fighter her husband is.

Randy suffered a stroke six years ago, and doctors only gave him a one-percent chance to live, but Mary, his then-fiancée, says Randy gave her a sign that told her not to take him off life support.

“Even in his state, his semi-coma state, he squeezed my hand,” she shared. “And he laid there, and I just I saw this tear just fell. And it was, you know, one, two at a time. And I just went back to the doctors and I said, ‘We’re fighting this.”’

The book is very honest about Randy’s struggles throughout his life, including alcohol abuse and more. “He’s always owned up to his shortcomings and failures, but he has always risen above them, too,” Mary says. “And he wants the reader to understand that there is mountains and valleys in life.”
