(OTTUMWA, Iowa) – On Monday, April 02, 2018, at approximately 12:50 PM, personnel from the Ottumwa Fire Department and the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a single vehicle car accident that resulted in a grassfire near the Vine Street exit off of Highway 34/63 bypass.

It was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle went off of the roadway and their vehicle came to rest in the ditch area by Vine Street. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and the body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

The name of the driver is not being released at this time pending confirmation of the identity at the autopsy.
