Oskaloosa Fourth of July Fireworks Scheduled

Fireworks will light up the Oskaloosa sky again on Monday, July 3rd. The Oskaloosa Fireworks are sponsored by Musco Sports Lighting. This year they have scheduled a spectacular community fireworks display for 10 p.m. on Monday, July 3rd following the races at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa.

The Southern Iowa Fair grandstands will be open to the public before the display with no admission charge.

Sponsors of this year’s event are Musco Sports Lighting and The Southern Iowa Fairgrounds.

In case of rain, the fireworks rain date and time will be Wednesday, July 5th at 10 p.m.

June 21st: On This Day

On this day in 2011, Justin Moore released his sophomore album Outlaws Like Me. The album included the track “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”, which would become Moore’s second number one hit on the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. “Till My Last Day” would also be released as a single, and would hit number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200, and number one on the US Billboard Top Country Albums chart. During the first week of release, the album sold 65,000 copies. The album has since been Certified Gold by the RIAA for sales over 500,000 copies.

 

Florida Georgia Line Will Collaborate With Bebe Rexha

Florida Georgia Line has added new collaboration to their resume, teaming up with pop star Bebe Rexha on the track “Meant to Be” from her forthcoming EP, All Your Fault: Part 2. Brian Kelley recently confirmed the news when he tweeted the word “Truth” in response to Music News & Rumors’ post about the possible collaboration.

 

  • This is just the duo’s latest cross-genre partnership following their collaborative song “Last Day Alive” with The Chainsmokers, as well as their current Top 5 single “God, Your Mama, and Me” with the Backstreet Boys.

Kane Brown is Getting the Vinyl Treatment

Six months after the release of his self-titled album in December, Kane Brown’s debut studio project is getting the vinyl treatment. The vinyl version of the chart-topping LP will hit shelves on June 30, just as Brown’s single featuring Lauren Alaina, “What Ifs,” approaches the Top 30 on the chart. Fans can pre-order the 12″ vinyl here.

Accidental U of Iowa Fire Blamed on Extension Cord

OWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Officials are blaming an idle electrical extension cord for an accidental fire that damaged the Bowen Science Building at the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City.

The university said in a news release Tuesday that the damage estimate from the June 11 fire has been raised to at least $1.5 million and doesn’t include damage to lab equipment or supplies that may need repairing or replacing. The original estimate was $500,000.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire sprinkler system contained the flames to a second-floor laboratory.

The building opened in 1972. It houses a variety of labs, department and teacher offices and classrooms.

New Baseball Rankings Leave Area Teams on Outside Looking In

The new Iowa High School Baseball Coaches’ Association rankings were released earlier this week and the results are very interesting.

There are no area teams actually in the top ten in any of the four classes, although there are a few that are among the “receiving votes” group.

In Class 4A, Ottumwa is among just four teams receiving votes outside of the top ten. Johnston is #1, followed by Dowling Catholic and Waukee. Little Hawkeye Conference team Indianola is #7 this week.

In Class 3A, Knoxville is the second team outside the rankings. The top three are Harlan, Davenport Assumption, and Vinton-Shellsburg.

Centerville is the second team out of the rankings in Class 2A. The Big Reds are competing in a revamped South Central Conference. New Hampton, Wilton, and Cascade of Western Dubuque are the top three.

Finally in Class 1A, Moravia remains one of the teams just outside of the top ten. Colfax-Mingo out of the South Iowa Cedar League is also among the teams just outside the rankings. Newman Catholic is #1, followed by North Linn and Martensdale-St. Marys.

Dan + Shay’s single “How Not To” has taken the top spot on country charts this week, giving the duo their third consecutive No. 1 song. Blake Shelton Celebrates His Birthday in Style

Blake Shelton celebrated his 41st birthday in style Sunday (6/18), hanging with his girlfriend Gwen Stefani at a special party she planned for him. The party had everything the birthday boy could dream of, including a custom-made armadillo cake and an accordion player. The party was even attended by Gwen’s father, Dennis, whom Shelton gave a big kiss on the cheek for Father’s Day. Gwen also got a smooch from the birthday boy and posted a photo of it on Instagram.
