On this day in 2003, Keith Urban scored his first Platinum album with Golden Road. Golden road produced three #1 hits with “Somebody Like You”, “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me”, and “You’ll Think of Me”.
Since then, Golden Road has been Certified 3× Platinum by the RIAA.
Luke Bryan has unveiled the track listing for his first-ever Farm Tour EP, Farm Tour…Here’s To The Farmer. The five-track EP features three songs that were co-written by Luke, including the title track “Here’s To The Farmer.” Bryan used his own fan app last week to reveal the songs and songwriters ahead of the EP’s release on September 23.
· Luke’s eighth annual “Bayer Presents Luke Bryan Farm Tour 2016” will kick off in Gaston, South Carolina, on October 5 and will run through October 15.

Emerging from the “Cowpunk” scene of L.A. in 1982, Lone Justice was fronted by one of the great female vocalists of the 1980s, Maria McKee. After their signing to the Geffen label at the urging of Linda Ronstadt, they recorded their self-titled debut album in 1985. This yielded the Tom Petty/Mike Campbell-penned hit “Ways To Be Wicked”:
Despite critical acclaim, the album failed to sell and the group took another shot the following year with their second LP “Shelter”. The title cut got some airplay, but peaked at #47 on the Billboard chart:

Unfortunately the band never went farther than that. If you have these two albums, you have their entire discography. After they called it a day in 1987, Maria McKee struck out on her own as a solo performer and recorded a string of critically lauded but little-known albums. One of my faves from her eponymous debut is “This Property Is Condemned”, featuring blistering guitar-work from Richard Thompson:

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The board that oversees Iowa’s three public universities says its plan for a new two-year budget system will bring more predictability to tuition expenses for students and their families, but the unpredictability of available state funding could complicate that effort.
The Iowa Board of Regents, which provides support to the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa, announced recently a plan to fund the budget years ending in 2018 and 2019 with a combination of tuition increases and new state dollars. The board will continue to seek money for one year ahead.
It may become increasingly difficult to determine how much money the Iowa Legislature will allocate each year to higher education. Student representatives expressed frustration when the board voted in July to raise tuition.

On this day in 1999, Shania Twain’s album, Come On Over, was Certified for 13 million in sales. The album is the 6th best-selling album in the United states, and the best-selling country music album by a female act.

Tucker Beathard will be hitting several college towns this fall on his headlining “Rock On College Tour.” The trek will kick off in Champaign, Illinois, on October 13 and will make stops in additional “Big Ten Conference” towns through the month of November. The tour will also feature special guest Aubrie Sellers, an artist whom Beathard says he’s become good friends with this year. Tucker says, “(Aubrie) doesn’t sound like anyone else out there, and her band is ridiculously good. There’s no place better than a college town in the Fall…I’m really excited to get started!”
· Beathard’s family history steeped in football, and he sees a lot of similarities between playing competitive sports and touring. Beathard says, “If I learned anything from growing up on a field surrounded by coaches and athletes, it’s that you have to keep your head down and keep practicing. Two hundred shows later, and I think we are ready to go tackle our first club tour.”

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — An angry white officer repeatedly yanked on the dreadlocks of a handcuffed black man who was arrested after a dangerous high-speed chase in Iowa, then twice hit him on the back of the head.
Video obtained this week by The Associated Press shows Waterloo officer Adam Wittmayer briefly assaulting 24-year-old Montavis Keller and calling him names after the April 19 chase.
A state prosecutor concluded in June that no criminal charges were warranted against Wittmayer because jurors would understand why he was mad.
Keller is charged with nearly hitting Wittmayer with his car at the end of the chase after Wittmayer put down tire-puncturing sticks to disable it.
Waterloo Police Chief Daniel Trelka says Wittmayer was disciplined and that he doesn’t condone the officer’s behavior.
On this day in 2004, Tim Mcgraw’s eight studio album, Live Like You Were Dying, sold 766,000 copies in its first week to place at the top of the Billboard 200 Albums chart and the Billboard Top Country Album chart. The album scored two #1’s with the title track and “Back When”.
The album has been Certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA.
Blake Shelton was in Nashville on Tuesday (8/30) to celebrate the success of his 22nd #1 song, “Came Here to Forget.” The #1 party was held at the ASCAP offices on Music Row, where Shelton celebrated with the song’s writers — Deric Ruttan and Craig Wiseman — as well as members of his label and management teams. Blake’s good friend and Warner Music Nashville label mate RaeLynn also attended the party to help congratulate the group.
· During the party, the group also celebrated Shelton’s latest studio album, If I’m Honest, earning a Gold certification. Warner Music Nashville Chairman/CEO John Esposito and CMO Peter Strickland were on hand to present Shelton with a plaque commemorating the milestone.
