John Rich’s new hit benefits families of fallen soldiers

John Rich has a new hit on his hands. The singer’s recently-released tune, “Shut Up About Politics,” featuring Fox News’ The Five (Greg Gutfield, Donna Brazile, Dana Perino, Jesse Watters, and Juan Williams), is at number one on the Country Digital Song Sales chart, thanks to 33,000 downloads sold. It is also at 17 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

The tune also debuts on the “Billboard” all-genre Hot 100 at 91, making it Rich’s second solo Hot 100 hit. He previously made it to 95 with 2009’s “Shuttin’ Detroit Down,” which made it to 75.

Proceeds from the song will be donated to Folds of Honor, an organization providing educational scholarships to children and spouses of fallen and disabled U.S. service members.

Miranda Lambert Opens Up About Married Life & Being A Stepmom

Miranda Lambert has been pretty private about her new life with hubby Brendan McLoughlin, but in a new interview she has finally opened up about it, including her life as a stepmom to Brendan’s seven-month-old son.

“My stepson is amazing,” Miranda tells “Extra.” “I’m loving that whole phase, and I’ve raised a million dogs, so I feel like I’ve got that part of my womanly/motherly thing is full, so this is a whole new journey. It’s great.”

The couple currently split time between New York, where Brendan is a police officer, and Nashville, and it seems to be working well for them. “We have the best of both worlds,” she says, “We spend time in New York, we get to see our adorable nugget, then we get to come back to the farm and have the quiet life. I’m enjoying the balance.”

And while Miranda has had to get used to a child being around, it seems Brendan has had to get used to being a pet parent. “He didn’t have any dogs or any animals at all when he came into this relationship, so he inherited a whole barn full,” she shares. “I was like, ‘Hey, I got the dogs, you got the kid, we can mix and mingle.’”

Granger Smith’s Three-Year-Old Son Dies In “Tragic Accident”

Deep condolences are going out to country singer Granger Smith who has revealed tragic news on social media: that his three-year-old son River died “following a tragic accident.” A rep for the singer has since confirmed to People that River was lost to a “tragic drowning accident at home.” But as horrific as the situation is, Granger and his wife have also found a way to see River live on.

“Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life,” he shared next to a picture of him hugging the adorable child. “Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.”

Granger goes on to reflect on River’s special gifts in life. “Riv was special,” notes. “Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts.” River is also survived by five-year-old brother Lincoln Monarch and a seven-year-old sister London.

Several of Granger’s fellow country stars reached out to him upon hearing the news. “I’m here for you if you need anything at all bro just hit me up,” Kane Brown commented, while Jason Aldean added, “I cant imagine what y’all are going thru. Praying for u and ur family brother. We are heartbroken for u guys,” and Luke Bryan commented, “Many prayers. So sorry.”
Others posting comments include Maren Morris, Jake Owen, Dan + Shay, Lauren Alaina, Carly Pearce, Cole Swindell, and Dustin Lynch.

George Strait headlines country’s first stadium tour

This day in 1998, George Strait headlined country’s first stadium tour, which featured artists such as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, the Dixie Chicks, Jo Dee Messina and many others.

In an effort to introduce these acts to as many fans as possible, the festival promised not to visit any market more than twice. It played only a small number of dates, usually no more than twenty a year, but still managed to be the ninth-biggest-grossing tour of 1998.

Carrie Underwood Wins Big At The CMT Music Awards

The CMT Music Awards took over Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena last night, and it was quite a show.

Carrie Underwood was the night’s big winner taking home two trophies, Video of the Year for “Cry Pretty” and Female Video of the Year for “Love Wins.” Kane Brown took home the tropy for Male Video of the Year for “Lose It,” while while Dan + Shay won Duo Video of the Year for “Speechless” and Keith Urban continued his CMT winning ways taking home Collaborative Video of the Year for “Coming Home,” his song with Julia Michaels.

Meanwhile, Zac Brown Band took home the award for Group Video for “Somebody I Used To Know”.

Little Big Town were back as hosts for a second year in a row and got the job done, making jokes about whether “Old Town Road” is country or not (they seem to think it is), Dan +Shay’s makeup routine, the “Game of Thrones” Starbucks cup, beer pong in the audience with Midland and more.

Of course, what the night is known for is the performances, and there sure were some great ones. Highlights included:

Thomas Rhett got the party started with his fun new song “Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time,” featuring Little Big Town and special guest Trombone Shorty.
Brett Young and Boyz II Men recreated their “CMT Crossroads” special, teaming up for Brett’s “Here Tonight”.

Toby Keith took to the outdoor stage to sing his brand new single “That’s Country Bro,” before he was joined by Cole Swindell for Toby’s classic tune “Beer For My Horses.”

Kelsea Ballerini opened her performance of “Miss Me More” with just her and her guitar, surrounded by an arena full of cellphone lights, and then eventually took the main stage with her band.
Hosts Little Big Town returned to perform their emotional track “The Daughters,” under a glowing globe, and sparkly lights.

Maren Morris brought some soul to the night for “Shade,” and was then joined by Sheryl Crow for their collaboration “Prove You Wrong,” although Stevie Nicks, who’s also featured on the song, wasn’t there.

After Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild talked about the lack of female representation on country radio, they introduced Brandi Carlile and Tanya Tucker, who teamed for probably the single best moment of the night, a performance of Tanya’s classic track “Delta Dawn.” They were joined by a star-studded female guest list, including Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Lauren Alaina, Deana Carter, Rae Lynn and Carly Pearce.

Carrie Underwood didn’t actually perform at Bridgestone. Instead Carrie performed her song “Southbound” live from the Parthenon monument at Nashville’s Centennial Park. The party-like performance featured a lot of glow sticks and pyro.

All of this year’s Breakthrough Video of the Year nominees got to perform a bit of their nominated songs on the Ram Trucks Side Stage, including Jimmie Allen (“Best Shot”), Jordan Davis (“Take It From Me”), Mitchell Tenpenny (“Drunk Me”), Morgan Wallen (“Whiskey Glasses”), Runaway June (“Buy My Own Drinks”), and Tenille Townes (“Somebody’s Daughter”).
Luke Combs closed he show with a rousing rendition of his latest single “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” although there was so much confetti at the end yoy could barely see him.

Among the other performances: Zac Brown Band performed “Someone I Used To Know,” Luke Bryan performed “Knockin’ Boots,” Kane Brown, performed his single “Short Skirt Weather” on at a stage in Downtown Nashville, Dan + Shay performed “All To Myself” also outside, and Keith Urban performed his brand new single “We Were.”
