This week’s H & S Feed & Country Store Pet of the Week is “Ace”, a one year old male tuxedo cat. Ace is a little stand-offish around other cats at first, but takes to people right away and is very affectionate. He also seems to be fine around dogs. Ace is vaccinated and all ready to find his forever home!

Keith Urban Drops Video For “Out The Cage,” Featuring Breland & Nile Rodgers

Keith Urban just shared a new video for his track “Out The Cage,” featuring Breland and Nile Rodgers.

Following a two-week quarantine, Keith and Breland shot the kinetic clip in Sydney, Australia, while Nile filmed his part in Connecticut.

“Out The Cage” is the latest track from Keith’s most recent album, “The Speed of Now Part 1.”

  • Today in 2000, George Strait enjoyed his single, “The Best Day,” taking the top spot on the Billboard country chart.
  • Today in 2002, Johnny Cash made a rare public appearance in Washington, D.C. He was presented the National Medal of Arts by President George Bush in a ceremony at Constitution Hall. His attendance was a bit of a surprise considering that he spends winters at his estate in Jamaica. It’s not that he prefers life in the tropics, but Johnny’s autonomic neuropathy makes him susceptible to pneumonia and winters in Nashville tend to be on the cold side. Other recipients of National Medals of Arts and National Humanities Medals included actor Kirk Douglas and classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
  • Today in 2007, Emmylou Harris, Wynonna Judd, The Crickets, John Hiatt, ex-BMI executive Frances Preston and Christian artist Michael W. Smith made up the second batch of people inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville.
  • Today in 2011, LeAnn Rimes married actor Eddie Cibrian at a private home in Malibu, California.

Lady A Is Excited To Bring Their Latest Single On The Road

Lady A got to perform their new single “Like A Lady” at the ACM Awards this past weekend, and it sounds like they are really excited to have more chances to play it live.

Dave Haywood says that the first time he and Charles Kelley heard the tune, which Hillary Scott wrote, he was “transported to the stage,” noting the track is perfect for “those summer amphitheaters we get to do in country music and we all love.”

Dave adds, “I think this is the song that is hopin’ to propel us toward, kinda the end of the pandemic and getting some positive music out there to kind a let us start gettin’ ready for buying tickets and gettin’ ready for shows again,” adding, “that’s our hope.”

  • Today in 1947, Hank Williams recorded “Move It On Over” and “I Saw The Light” at Nashville’s Castle Studio during his first MGM recording session.
  • Today in 1987, the “Hillbilly Deluxe” album by Dwight Yoakam was released.
  • Today in 1987, Reba’s “What Am I Gonna Do About You” album was certified gold.
  • Today in 1995, Brooks and Dunn scored a #1 hit with “Little Miss Honky Tonk.”
  • Today in 1998, the “One Step At A Time” album by George Strait was released.

  • Today in 2004, Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith each won two trophies at the third annual CMT Flame Worthy Video Music Awards at Nashville’s Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Luke Bryan Says Getting Over COVID Was ‘Quite Challenging’

Luke Bryan was recently sidelined from “American Idol” after testing positive for COVID-19 and now he’s opening up about his experience.

Luke tells “People” he was “fortunate” that he didn’t have a “long, long set of symptoms,” although he admits, “it was still quite challenging for a couple of days,” and now he feels “blessed” to be on the “other side” of his diagnosis.

Luke adds that he was lucky to get through it easily with the help of his wife Caroline, sharing, “There were times when Caroline was nursing me back to health, so I was certainly amazed to move through that.”

Meanwhile Luke also talked to Extra about his bout with COVID, telling them “I had two or three days. … It was really, really tough and the boys were, I went to a whole different section of the house. I didn’t see the boys for 10 days. … That was tough,” adding, “I got just a little fatigue — everybody says expect that. I’m just really, really happy to be back doing Idol. I was heartbroke to miss last week.”

Located in Nashville, David Lipscomb University is the alma mater of Diamond Rio’s lead singer, Marty Roe.

Another ACM Awards Are In The Books

The 56th Annual ACM Awards went down last night in Nashville, taking place mainly in iconic Nashville locations – The Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, Bluebird Cafe, The Station Inn and more- with the show watched by an in-person audience made up of healthcare workers from Vanderbilt Hospital.

The night’s big award, Entertainer of the Year, went to Luke Bryan, who was not in house after testing positive for COVID, but did accept his award via Zoom. This was Luke’s third time winning the big trophy.

The night’s other big winner was Maren Morris, who won two trophies, Female Artist of the Year (for a second year in a row) and Song of the Year for “The Bones.” Carly Pearce and Lee Brice also took home two awards, Song of the Year and Music Event of the Year for “I Hope You’re Happy Now.”

Other winners included: Chris Stapleton’s “Starting Over,” named Album of the Year (his third Album of the Year win), Thomas Rhett, who won Male Artist of the Year (his third), Old Dominion, nabbed Group of the Year (for a fourth straight year), and Dan + Shay  won Duo of the Year for the third straight year. Of course, what everyone tunes into the ACM for are the performances, and there certainly were a ton of them.

  • The show kicked off with Miranda Lambert and Ell King, decked out in fringed leather jackets, performing the world television premiere of “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home).”
  • Thomas Rhett treated fans to a pair of songs from his upcoming album, the title track, “Country Again,” and his latest number one, “What’s Your Country Song.”
  • Chris Stapleton performed “Maggie’s Song,” about his late dog, at the Bluebird Café. Dog lover Miranda Lambert filled in on background vocals because Chris’ wife Morgane had a “prior doula commitment.”
  • Maren Morris and hubby Ryan Hurd brought the heat for their collab “Chasing After You,” ending the performance with a kiss.
  • Dierks Bentley performed U2’s “Pride (In The Name of Love), with War and Treaty at the Station Inn, dedicating it to the club’s owner JT Gray, who passed away last month.
  • Carrie Underwood performed a “My Savior” medley, including “Amazing Grace,” “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” with guest CeCe Winans, and “How Great Thou Art.”
  • Miranda Lambert returned for a third time to perform her “Marfa Tapes” song “In His Arms,” with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.
  • Dan + Shay performed “Glad You Exist,” although there seemed to be something really wrong with their feed because their lips didn’t match up with what they were singing. They later addressed the issue on Twitter.
  • New Artist winner Jimmie Allen performed “Freedom Was A Highway,” and was surprised mid-song by his collaboration partner Brad Paisley.
  • Kenny Chesney performed “Knowing You,” as the In Memoriam video of stars who passed in the last year played in the background.
  • Carly Pearce and Lee Brice performed their Single of the Year winner “I Hope You’re Happy Now.”
  • Alan Jackson performed a medley featuring his classic “Drive (For Daddy Gene),” and his new single “You’ll Always Be My Baby (Written For Daughter).”
  • Blake Shelton kicked off his performance with his debut single “Austin,” which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and then followed that with his latest track “Minimum Wage.”
  • Host Mickey Guyton once again showed off her pipes during her performance of “Hold On,” backed by a chorus who sang from the audience.
  • Host Keith Urban reunited with his band to perform “Tumbleweed,” the first time he’s gotten to perform the track with them.
  • Little Big Town, who was without Philip Sweet who tested COVID positive (although there was a cutout of him), performed “Wine Beer Whiskey” from the streets of downtown Nashville, backed be a horn and drum section.
  • Brothers Osborne performed “I’m Not For Everyone,” and then wrapped the show with “Dead Man’s Curve.”
  • The night’s performances included: Chris Young and Kane Brown performed “Famous Friends” at the Ryman, Lady A performed “Like A Lady” on an outside stage in Nashville; New Artist winner Gabby Barrett performed “One Of The Good Ones,” Eric Church debuted the brand new song “A Bunch of Nothing,” Luke Combs performed “Forever After All,” Ashley McBryde performed “Martha Devine” on the boardwalk in Nashville, and Kelsea Ballerini and Kenny Chesney performed a beautiful rendition of “half of my home town.”

This day in Country Music History

  • Today in 1924, “National Barn Dance” premiered on WLS radio in Chicago. Later, the famous program would be renamed “The National Barn Dance” and became the first country music jamboree on radio. (“The Grand Ole Opry” on WSM Radio began in 1925.) “National Barn Dance” continued for many years on the radio station that was owned by retailer, Sears Roebuck & Co. WLS, in fact, stood for “World’s Largest Store”. Though the “Barn Dance” gave way to rock music and eventually, talk radio. On the other hand, “The Grand Ole Opry” continues each weekend.
  • Today in 1969, Glen Campbell reached the top of the Billboard country singles chart wit the Jimmy Webb song “Galveston.”
  • Today in 1975, Emmylou Harris debuted on the charts with “Too Far Gone.”
  • Today in 1978, Willie Nelson released his album “Stardust.”
  • Today in 1980, for the first time ever, women held the top five positions on the “Billboard” country chart. The artists were Crystal Gayle, Dottie West, Debby Boone, Emmylou Harris and Tammy Wynette (with George Jones).

  • Today in 1990, Lorrie Morgan’s “Leave The Light On” album was certified gold.

  • Today in 1991, Travis Tritt scored his first #1 hit, “Drift Off to Dream.”

  • Today in 2000, Clay Davidson appeared on CNN’s “On The Shelf” segment.
  • Today in 2000, the British paper, “The Weekly News,” reported that Shania was responsible for helping a 14-year-old boy come out of a coma. In October 1999, the child was struck by a car and left in a coma. The boy’s mother said that doctors told her to expect the worst for her son. Then, a few weeks into the boy’s treatment, his family brought him a personal stereo and a copy of Shania’s “Come On Over” album. Reportedly, every time the hospital staff switched off the CD for any reason, there were immediate changes in his vital signs. Slowly, he started to come out of his coma and in late December, his mother heard the precious words, “I want my mum!” A few weeks later, the boy’s family was given the best news of all – that he could come home permanently. At last check, the family said that everything is improving and that “Come On Over” is still his favorite album.
  • Today in 2003, Brad Paisley’s “Celebrity” video premiered during CMT’s “Most Wanted Live,” with celebrity cameos by Jason Alexander, Jim Belushi, Little Jimmy Dickens, Trista Rehn, and William Shatner.
  • Today in 2005, Carrie Underwood sang “MacArthur Park” as one of the seven remaining contestants on “American Idol.”
  • Today in 2007, Keith Urban’s video “I Told You So” debuted on CMT.
