  • Today in 1966, Jack Greene’s “There Goes My Everything” began a seven-week run at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart.
  • Today in 1966, Elvis Presley proposed to long-time girlfriend Priscilla Beaulieu at Graceland Mansion.
  • Today in 1971, Grand Ole Opry member Little Jimmy Dickens married Miss Mona Evans.
  • Today in 1978, Alan Jackson proposed to his girlfriend, Denise Jackson, who already had the same last name.

  • Today in 2011, Wynonna Judd and Highway 101 drummer Cactus Moser got engaged. They were married the following June.
  • Today in 2016, Kellie Pickler and her husband, “More Than A Memory” songwriter Kyle Jacobs, arrive in Baghdad, Iraq, as they launch their 11th USO tour.
  • Today in 2016, Kacey Musgraves and her now-husband Ruston Kelly got engaged. They married the following October. In late 2019, tongues started wagging that the couple was on the outs. And while they pushed back to a degree, the rumors became real when they filed for divorce in July 2020 and finalized the split by September.

Dierks Bentley Wipes Out Riding Bike Down Snowy Mountain

Dierks Bentley needs to learn to take a few more precautions while biking. The singer shared video of him biking down a snowy mountain and eventually wiping out, sharing “That’s what you get for trying to film and bike at the same time.”

Luckily it seems that Dierks was okay, although he didn’t exactly get right up. Instead he decided to lie down and take “a little snooze.”

This isn’t the first time Dierks has had a biking fail. Back in May he busted his hip crashing during a bike race in the desert.

  • Today in 1968, Tammy Wynette’s album, “Stand By Your Man,” was released.
  • Today in 1969, Thomas received a gold certification for the single, “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.” It was from the motion picture, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
  • Today in 1978, Kenny Rogers’ single, “The Gambler,” topped the country charts.
  • Today in 1983, the album, “Family Tradition,” by Hank Williams Jr. was certified gold.
  • Today in 1994, Wynonna Judd gave birth to her first child, Elijah Judd Kelly.
  • Today in 1997, Shania Twain’s “Come On Over” album was certified gold, platinum and double-platinum.
  • Today in 1997, the “Evolution” album by Martina McBride was certified gold.
  • Today in 2000, Billy Ray Cyrus presented the Second Annual “Some Gave All” award to the widow of Officer Alan Ragsdale. The event raised money for the family of the Howenwald police officer who was killed in the line of duty earlier in the year.
  • Today in 2003, Craig Morgan delivered an acoustic set in Kuwait, the first concert in a Middle Eastern tour for American G.I.s during the holiday season.

  • Today in 1960, guitarist Chuck Mead was born in Missouri. He came one of the two lead vocalists in BR549.
  • Today in 1973, Merle Haggard’s song “If We Make It Through December” hit #1 on the Billboard country chart.
  • Today in 1981, at a rock auction in London, a letter of introduction from Buddy Holly to Decca Records sold for $2,000. At the same event, John and Cynthia Lennon’s marriage certificate was sold for $850 and an autographed program from the world premiere of the Beatles film “Help!” brought in $2,100.
  • Today in 1984, The Judd’s and “Why Not Me” were found at #1 on the Billboard country chart.
  • Today in 1994, Martina and John McBride welcomed their daughter, Delaney.
  • Today in 1995, Clint Black’s album, “One Emotion,” was certified platinum.
  • Today in 2002, Nashville’s morning paper, “The Tennessean,” named Alan Jackson the Tennessean of the Year, in great part because of his accomplishments with the song “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning).” The funny thing is, Alan hails from Newnan, Georgia.
  • Today in 2009, The Zac Brown Band’s “Highway 20 Ride” video premiered on CMT.com.
  • Today in 2010, “Country Strong” debuted in Los Angeles and Nashville. Time McGraw portrayed the manager of a singer played by Gwyneth Paltrow.
  • Today in 2013, Paris, Illinois observed Brett Eldredge Day and unveiled city-limit signs proclaiming the community the “Home of Nashville Recording Artist: Brett Eldredge.”
  • Today in 2016, Lucy Hale posted her outrage on Twitter after topless photos were stolen from her phone and posted online.

Miranda Lambert Goes On Shopping Spree To Help Animal Shelters

Miranda Lambert played Santa Claus for some needy pets this holiday season. In case you missed it, the singer had herself a shopping spree at Tractor Supply to pick up some much-needed items for animal shelters in the Nashville area.

The singer loaded up on pet food, toys and supplies, amounting to thousands of dollars of goods, which her MuttNation organization donated to three shelters – Williamson County Animal Center, Metro Nashville Animal Care & Control and Nashville Humane Association.

“This time of year, it’s so important to remember shelter animals everywhere,” Miranda shares. “These three shelters have been important local partners to MuttNation over the past several years, and we all know how tough it’s been for them. I just wanted to show my appreciation.”

In addition, 10 deserving shelters received $1,000 gift cards courtesy of Miranda’s MuttNation and Tractor Supply.

  • Today in 1983, the “20 Greatest Hits” album by Kenny Rogers was certified gold and platinum.
  • Today in 1985, George Strait’s “The Chair” was sitting at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart.
  • Today in 1988, K.T. Oslin’s album, “This Woman,” was certified gold.
  • Today in 1996, Garth Brooks was #1 on the charts with the single, “That Ol’ Wind.”
  • Today in 1999, the holiday album, “Garth Brooks & The Magic Of Christmas,” was certified gold and platinum.

  • Today in 2013, Ray Price was celebrated during a memorial service at the First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, Texas. “Blue” songwriter Bill Mack and radio host Eddie Stubbs address mourners, who heard versions of “In The Garden” and “Danny Boy.”
  • Today in 2016, Dustin Lynch defeats Cassadee Pope in an episode of Spike TV’s “Lip Sync Battle,” using whipped cream in a sex simulation to Ludacris’ “What’s Your Fantasy.” Pope performed to Panic! At The Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” with a surprise appearance by the band’s lead singer, Brendon Urie.
  • Today in 2017, Midland performed for Robert Redford at the actor’s Sundance Ranch in Utah.

Brett Eldredge Postpones Chicago Shows After Positive COVID Test

Brett Eldredge has been forced to cancel some upcoming shows in Chicago after testing positive for COVID.

“Today has been a really rough day,” he shared in a video on Instagram, explaining he’d “been feeling like I’ve had a cold or something the last few days.”

He said he was tested several times, and the last one before heading to Chicago came back positive. “I went to check one last time, just to make sure it wasn’t COVID or something, and, unfortunately, turns out I have COVID, which really sucks, He says. “I’ve been so excited about playing this show… breaks my heart.”

On the brightside, he isn’t canceling this weekend’s shows, just postponing, noting, “So incredibly sad to not get to play in Chicago this weekend, but I hope to see you December 29th and 30th!”

  • Today in 1993, the tribute album “Common Thread: The Songs Of The Eagles” went gold, platinum and double-platinum. It features Travis Tritt, Little Texas, Clint Black, John Anderson, Alan Jackson, Suzy Bogguss, Vince Gill, Diamond Rio, Trisha Yearwood, Billy Dean, Tanya Tucker, Brooks & Dunn and Lorrie Morgan.
  • Today in 1992, Alan Jackson hit the top of the country singles charts with “She’s Got The Rhythm (I’ve Got The Blues).”
  • Today in 2001, Lee Ann Womack’s single “I Hope You Dance” was certified gold.
  • Today in 2002, the numbers were made final and Faith Hill was tapped as logging a record setting 6-million streams as AOL’s “Artist of the Month” campaign.
