Carrie Underwood Makes Guest Appearance On ‘Cobra Kai’

The latest season of Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” recently debuted, and it features a cameo by Carrie Underwood. Carrie, a fan of the series, appears in episode nine, performing during the 51st annual All-Valley Karate Championship.

“I grew up watching Daniel and Johnny, and I can’t believe I actually get to be a small part of the legacy that is ‘The Karate Kid,'” she shared in a statement. “Once I discovered ‘Cobra Kai’ a few years ago, it became one of my favorite shows!”

She added, “I had so much fun being on the set and singing such a classic song,” noting, “I cannot wait to watch every new episode!”

As for what she sings, Carrie performs a cover of “The Moment of Truth,” originated by Survivor for the “Karate Kid” soundtrack in 1984.

  • Today in 1923, WBAP in Dallas became the first station west of the Mississippi River to broadcast country music, airing “The Radio Barn Dance.”
  • Today in 1953, Hank Williams’ funeral drew more than 20,000 people in Montgomery, Alabama. A country choir led by Webb Pierce, Red Foley, Little Jimmy Dickens and Carl Smith performed “I Saw The Light.” Ernest Tubb offered “Beyond The Sunset.”
  • Today in 1969, Johnny Cash earned a #1 single in “Billboard” with “Daddy Sang Bass.” Written by Carl Perkins, it features vocal appearances by The Statler Brothers and The Carter Family.
  • Today in 1989, Dwight Yoakam registered a gold album with “Buenas Noches From A Lonely Room.”
  • Today in 1991, the US Internal Revenue Service holds the first of several auctions of property belonging to Willie Nelson to pay off nearly $17-million in taxes and penalties.
  • Today in 1992, Collin Raye posted his first #1 country single with “Love, Me.”
  • Today in 2000, the Dixie Chicks’ “Fly” album was nominated for the Album of the Year GRAMMY, competing with Santana, Diana Krall, The Backstreet Boys and TLC. In all, the Chicks picked up a total of four nominations.
  • Today in 2002, the soundtrack to “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and individual cuts pick up five nominations in the GRAMMY awards. The album, “Timeless: Hank Williams Tribute” also collected five.
  • Today in 2006, LeAnn Rimes sang the national anthem at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, while Big & Rich performed six songs at a pre-game tailgate party. The Texas Longhorns defeat the USC Trojans, 41-38, in the waning seconds.
  • Today in 2016, thief broke into Kacey Musgraves’ car in downtown Nashville and stole her new pair of boots. When 30-year-old Darnell Cunningham tried to return the boots – which were valued at about $900 – for cash, the clerk recognized them, called the cops and Cunningham was busted on theft of property charges.

 

Kane Brown & Wife Welcome Second Daughter

Congratulations are in order for Kane Brown and wife Katelyn. The couple revealed on social media that they welcomed their second daughter last week.

“New Year, new family member,” Kane shared on. “Welcome to the family Kodi Jane. Secret (is) finally out.”

Kane and Katelyn had not revealed they were expecting a new addition to the family. According to People, little Kodi was born on Thursday, weighing 7 lbs., 9 oz. and was 20.5 inches long.

Kane later shared a picture of a pregnant Katelyn, noting, “Been holding on to these pics ❤️ I’ve always wanted a son until I had Kingsley and now I’m good with all my girls ????.”

This is the couple’s second child. Their first, daughter Kingsley Rose, is two.

  • Today in 1950, Sam Phillips opened the Sun Recording Studio, originally known as the Memphis Recording Service, at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis. It became a site for sessions by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis, among others.
  • Today in 1975, John Denver scored a gold single with “Back Home Again.”
  • Today in 1986, Willie Nelson and Alabama collected four nominations each at the American Music Awards. Lee Greenwood and Hank Williams Jr. were tapped three times each.
  • Today in 1991, Billy Ray Cyrus signed his first recording contract with Mercury Records in Ashland, Kentucky. In conjunction with the event, the mayors of Ashland and Flatwoods, Kentucky, each proclaim Billy Ray Cyrus Day.

  • Today in 2018, Nielsen Music announced Chris Stapleton had the best-selling country album of 2017 with “From A Room: Volume 1,” selling 658-thousand copies during the year. Sam Hunt’s “Body Like A Back Road” was the most-downloaded country single, at 1.8-million units, and the most-streamed, as well.

Taylor Swift’s Music To Soundtrack Peleton’s Latest Artist Series

Taylor Swift fans who are Peloton members are certainly going to have a bit more fun during their workouts.

In case you missed it, the fitness brand announced a new collaboration with Swift, naming her their final Artist Series of the Year. Starting on Christmas Day, Tay’s music was added to various on-demand classes, like cycling, yoga, strength and more.

“Some guessed it. Even more hoped for it. Taylor Swift’s music. Now on Peloton,” read an Instagram announcement from the company. “Experience class after class, song after song of Red (Taylor’s Version) in one of the most anticipated Artist Series we’ve ever made. All of the heartbreak. All of the hope. All of the classes, Red (Taylor’s Version).”

This day in Country Music History

  • Today in 1947, Roy Rogers married Dale Evans in Murray County, Oklahoma. Rogers was late for the ceremony after having to put out a fire started by a cigarette butt in another room. They remained together until Rogers’ death in 1998.
  • Today in 1985, Rick Nelson died in a plane crash outside of DeKalb, Texas.
  • Today in 1990, Lisa Hartman first met Clint Black backstage at his New Year’s Eve concert in Houston, Texas.
  • Today in 1999, Trisha Yearwood and Kenny Rogers took part in CBS-TV’s landmark special, “America’s Millennium: A Celebration” in Washington D.C. Of course, some folks say that the “real” millennium didn’t take place until the first of the following year.
  • Today in 2002, Big Kenny, already $140-thousand in debt, lost most of his last $200 while playing black jack in a Las Vegas casino. He gave the dealer a $20 tip, which left himself with just one buck. This event inspired him to write a future Tim McGraw hit, “Last Dollar (Fly Away).”
  • Today in 2003, Toby Keith headlined the big year-end show for folks in Nashville at the Gaylord Entertainment Center for the first time. The show included performances from Scotty Emerick, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton. Things went so well that Toby returned – this time with Terri Clark and Dierks Bentley in tow.
  • Today in 2008, Kellie Pickler was a correspondent in 18-degree weather in Times Square on ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” Lionel Richie, The Jonas Brothers, and Taylor Swift performed.
  • Today in 2011, The Band Perry performed “If I Die Young” on the ABC year-end special, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” along with, Fergie, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and Hot Chelle Rae. It was the last iconic New Year’s Eve of Clark’s life.

This week’s H & S Feed & Country Store Pet of the Week is “Cimon”, a 2 year old Pitbull mix. Cimon’s a friendly, energetic fellow who loves doing “zoomies” (running back and forth when he gets excited), and loves attention. He gets along well with other dogs, (he hasn’t been cat-tested yet, though) and would make a great companion.

Kenny Chesney pays tribute to friend John Madden

NFL Hall of Famer John Madden died Tuesday at the age of 85. Well, Kenny Chesney, who considered Madden a friend, took to social media to pay tribute to him. “So long to my good friend John Madden. He was such a big part of the “Boys of Fall” film,” he wrote, referring to the 2011 high school football doc Kenny produced. “We became friends after his interview, and he’ll be missed by everyone that loves the game of football.” He added, “Thank you, John, for your time and for listening to my song and bringing so many people together on a Sunday afternoon. Rest In Peace, my friend.”

  • Today in 1950, Lefty Frizzell made his first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry when he sang, “If You’ve Got The Money I’ve Got The Time” and “I Love You A Thousand Ways.”
  • Today in 1956, Suzy Bogguss was born in Aledo, Illinois.
