  • Today in 2002, Reba McEntire and Charlie Daniels were among the 25 inaugural inductees into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame.
  • Today in 2003, Alan Jackson has reclaimed the #1 spot on both the “Radio & Records’” Country Top 50 chart as well as “Billboard’s” Hot Country Singles chart with “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” his duet with Jimmy Buffett. He was also at #1 for a fifth week on “Billboard’s” Top Country Albums chart. And while all this sounds cool, consider that having a #1 song for eight collective weeks also made a little history for Alan and Jimmy. For starters, the song notched the most weeks at #1 for any country track that year. This was also the first time since 1962 that a country duet has logged eight weeks in the top slot – and only the second time since 1964 that any country single has achieved the feat.

CMT Artist Of The Year Honorees Announced

CMT’s “Artist of The Year” 2022 will take place October 14th at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and this year’s honorees have just been announced.

The network announced that this year’s ceremony will celebrate Carly Pearce, Cody Johnson, Kane Brown, Luke Combs and Walker Hayes, with Carly, Cody and Walker being honored for the first time.

“We are honored to recognize the astounding achievements of this illustrious group of artists over the past year,” Margaret Comeaux, CMT’s Senior Vice President of Production, Music & Events, shares. “Carly, Cody, Kane, Luke and Walker all represent the vibrant future of the country music format, as they defy convention and blaze new trails, breaking industry records and genre barriers,” adding, “We can’t wait to celebrate their extraordinary accomplishments alongside their fellow artists and friends.”

  • Carly took to social media to react to the honor, sharing, “The last year of my life has been something out of a country music fairy tale. All of the dreams I’ve had since I was a little girl have made their way to my reality,” noting, “Thank you @CMT for naming me one of their Artists of the Year. What a year it’s been for a girl who always wanted to sing country music ????♥️.”

  • Today in 2021, Ashley McBryde fell while horseback riding in Montana and landed on her head, suffering a concussion and requiring stitches. In the days following the accident, she was unable to walk without assistance and cancels a series of concerts. She’s since made a full recovery.

Reba McEntire Says ‘Reba’ Reboot Isn’t Happening

Over the summer, Reba McEntire was quoted as saying that she really wanted to see a reboot of her hit sitcom “Reba” happen, and the rest of the cast did too. But sadly she now says it doesn’t look like that will be hitting TV screens anytime soon.

“Unfortunately not. I thought we were getting really close,” she tells “Good Morning America,” when asked about the status of the reboot. “But nope. Not gonna be able to do it for right now. But we’ll keep seeing if we can get in there somewhere.”

Instead fans will just have to get their Reba fix on ABC’s “Big Sky, where she’ll make her debut on the season three premiere tonight.

  • Today in 1993, Garth Brooks’ self-titled debut album was certified for sales of 5-million copies.
  • Today in 1993, the Country Music Association announced it would induct Willie Nelson into its Hall of Fame. The actual induction took place on September 29th.

Shania Twain Announces New Single

Shania Twain is ready to release new music. The singer announced on social media she’s dropping the new single “Waking Up Dreaming” on Friday.

“Every time I get to announce something like this I get such a rush of adrenaline and nerves – it never gets old,” she writes on Instagram. “I am super excited to share with you that my new song ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ is coming out this Friday!!”

She adds, “I’ve spent the last couple years working away on new music… on my documentary… on the Vegas residency and it’s been such a creatively fulfilling time for me, I can’t wait for this next chapter and Waking Up Dreaming is just the start.⁠”

  • Today in 1973, a day after Gram Parsons died, his body was stolen during transfer at the Los Angeles International Airport, then taken to Joshua Tree, where it was burned, in accordance with his request. Road manager Phil Kaufman is among two charged with the crime – he was ultimately fined $750.
  • Today in 1992, Charlie Daniels hosts Volunteer Jam XV at Nashville’s Starwood Amphitheater. It features Eddie Rabbitt, Paulette Carlson, Suzy Bogguss, Jo-El Sonnier, Pirates Of The Mississippi, Confederate Railroad, The Oak Ridge Boys, Little Feat, Hal Ketchum, Poco and The Desert Rose Band, among others.
  • Today in 1997, during an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, Johnny Paycheck received an invitation from Opry general manager Bob Whittaker to join the cast.
  • Today in 2002, Toby Keith’s “Who’s Your Daddy?” video premiered on CMT.

Vince Gill Celebrated On ‘CMT Giants’

Some of today’s biggest country stars came out to celebrate the Vince Gill for the special “CMT GIANTS: Vince Gill,” with the show jam-packed with great performances.

The night featured performances by such artists as including Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Maren Morris, Brad Paisley, Cody Johnson, Luke Combs and Ricky Skaggs. Plus, artists like Emmylou Harris, Keith Urban, Reba McEntire and Rodney Crowell shared special personal stories about Vince.

Highlights of the night included: Chris performing “Whenever You Come Around,” Carrie performing “Go Rest High on that Mountain,” Luke performing “Pretty Little Adriana, Brad singing Liza Jane,’ Cody performing “When I Call Your Name,” Ricky Skaggs singing “One More Last Chance,” Maren sang “Don’t Let Our Love Start Sliippin’ Away,” and more.

  • Today in 2001, Clint Black and his wife, Lisa Hartman Black, had more than a new baby to celebrate. The couple’s duet, “Easy for Me to Say” debuted at #56 on “Billboard’s” Hot Country Singles chart. It was also the first time that Lisa debuted on the magazine’s chart. But wait…what about…1999’s “When I Said I Do?” Of course, that was a huge hit, too, but Lisa wasn’t officially listed in the credits and therefore didn’t appear on the “Billboard” chart.
  • Today in 2002, Brad Paisley launched the inaugural “CMT Most Wanted Live” tour in Phoenix. While Brad was the featured headliner, the show’s opening acts varied throughout the schedule and included Steve Azar, Chris Cagle, Tammy Cochran, Andy Griggs, Steve Holy, Shannon Lawson, Rascal Flatts, Tommy Shane Steiner, Phil Vassar, Pinmonkey and Darryl Worley.
