Waylon Jennings to a Reporter: “If You Ask Another Question Like That, We’ll Burn Your Home”

In 1991, The Highwaymen were touring abroad when they sat down for an interview . . . and let’s just say, it did not go as planned.

The first question that was asked was, quote, “Why [are you] teaming up together?  At least one critic, probably more, suggested it’s because none of you can now fill the halls anymore on your own, and it takes four of you.”

Kris Kristofferson first answered with, “How kind of you to point that out.”  Before Johnny Cash jumped in and defended them.  He said, “That’s not a true statement you made there.”

Johnny went on to say that all four of them could sell out shows on their own, and it takes a lot of work to get all their schedules lined up to make it work.

This is when Waylon Jennings came in with one of the most intense statements ever said in an interview.  Quote, “I tell ya, one more point too . . . if you ask another question like that, we’ll burn your home.”

The Highwaymen all shared a great big laugh together.  The reporter did not.

A former wife of songwriter Harlan Howard and duet partner of Bill Anderson, she earned a Top 5 country hit with the 1966 single “Evil On Your Mind” and a Top 15 hit with “My Son,” written about her boy, who died in Vietnam. That evening, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Jenny Gill and Corinna Grant Gill performed “How Great Thou Art” to honor Jan as the Opry was held in front of an empty house while much of the nation was on COVID-19 quarantine.

MORE DETAILS EMERGE ON “CMT MUSIC AWARDS” PERFORMERS

As we draw closer to this years “CMT Music Awards,” we’re learning more about who will be performing on the big night. Five new artists were just announced – three solo performers and a duet.

Added to the performers list: Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, Old Dominion and a duet with Parker McCollum + Brittney Spencer. These five join the previously announced Bailey Zimmerman, Jelly Roll, Jordan Davis, Kelsea Ballerini, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, Needtobreathe, Sam Hunt and Trisha Yearwood. Johnson is expected to perform his “That’s Texas”; Moroney will do her recently released “No Caller ID” as well as performing alongside Old Dominion on their collaboration, “Can’t Break Up Now.” And McCollum and Spencer will team up for a duet version of Parker’s current hit “Burn It Down.”

The awards air Sunday, April 7 live from Austin, Texas’ Moody Center from 8-11 pm ET/PT on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.

TRISHA YEARWOOD TO RECEIVE JUNE CARTER CASH HUMANITARIAN AWARD

The upcoming “CMT Music Awards” will see the debut of a brand new award – the “June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award,” presented to the singer that displays “dedication to community and their fellow artists, embodying June’s spirit as a fierce advocate and initiator in paying it forward, helping others find their voice and using their platform to inspire and uplift others.” And the inaugural recipient will be Trisha Yearwood.

“We are thrilled to honor the incomparable Trisha Yearwood with the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award at this year’s show. Trisha has a unique ability to rally a community, whether that may be families in need with Habitat for Humanity, or uplifting her fellow artists and entertainers trying to carve a path in the industry,” said a CMT Music Awards statement. “She embodies the bold strength of June, who tirelessly devoted herself to service and community, and the namesake for this award. Both multi-hyphenate trailblazers eloquently crafted a script for others to model, letting their hearts and authenticity guide their personal, professional and public lives.”

Trisha will receive her honors April 7 at the awards show, as well as perform her song “Put It In A Song.” The “CMT Music Awards” takes place on Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. The show will air on CBS and will also be available to stream live and on demand via Paramount+.

MIRANDA LAMBERT DOES IN-CONCERT GENDER REVEAL FOR TWO MEMBERS OF HER TEAM

Miranda Lambert is fortunate in that the people she works with also happen to be, in many cases, close friends. Fans got to see that for themselves Saturday night at Miranda’s “Velvet Rodeo” show in Las Vegas. From the stage, Miranda explained to the crowd that two people close to her were going to get the spotlight – as she was going to do a gender reveal for the couple from the stage. The couple were her “bestie slash personal assistant” Cameron Mitchell, and her husband (and Lambert’s keyboardist and band leader) Danny Mitchell.

Lambert launched into a performance of her “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home),” and in the final chorus, confetti cannons shot out a round of pink confetti, telling the world that the baby joining Lambert’s tour family will be a girl.

LAINEY WILSON GETTING INTO THE BAR BUSINESS – SORTA

Country musicians with their own bars, honky tonks and nightclubs are a dime a dozen in Nashville. Garth Brooks, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Old Dominion, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and on and on, it’s the go-to investment for these stars. And now Lainey Wilson is among them – but only sort of.

The bourbon brand Barmen 1873 has tapped Lainey for its first-ever celebrity partnership. To celebrate their new joint venture, the pair will bring a Lainey Wilson-themed pop-up bar, “Hold My Bourbon Bar,” to life for one weekend, April 5-7.

Taking place at GoodTimes Full Service Bar (1529 4th Ave South in Nashville)  the temporary setup will be decked out in Western decor while Wilson’s tunes play through the speakers, as fans sip on specialty cocktails cooked up by Lainey herself. “2024 has been an incredible year so far, and I’m thrilled to have Barmen 1873 Bourbon come along for the ride,” Wilson shared. “Together, we’ll create memories for all my fans, starting with the ‘Hold My Bourbon Bar,’ which will serve some delicious cocktails that I had the pleasure of helping create.”
