The Oskaloosa Girls Soccer team capped off a busy first week of action with a 3-0 win in their home opener over Chariton Thursday night. It took a bit to get things rolling thanks to a cold night with a stiff wind and on and off again rain but junior Ashley Brockman, who returned from an injury she suffered on Monday, scored the first Indian goal, and despite numerous shot attempts and dominating possession most of the first half, Osky led just 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, freshman Aleeya Cheney scored two goals, both off free kicks as a result of fouls drawn by Brockman. This was the third game this week for the Indians and they’re off to a 3-0 start with a 2-0 win at Des Moines Hoover on Monday, 8-0 at Ottumwa on Tuesday, and 3-0 last night over Chariton. Cheney has found the back of the net seven times already this season including a four goal performance on Tuesday. April 7th: On This Day

On this day in 1991, Garth Brooks had the #1 song in the country with “Two Of A Kind, Workin’ On A Full House.” The song was the third single off of No Fences and was also his fifth consecutive number one hit.

Garth provided background information on the song in the CD booklet liner notes from The Hits:

This song came to me through Jon Northrup. He was doing a demo deal, and “Two of a Kind” was one of the four songs he was pitching for a demo. When I heard it, I said, “I wish you all the luck on your deal, but if for some reason it falls through, I’d love to have this. He called me three months later and told me I could have it if I wanted it. I immediately cut it. And to this day, even though it’s a small, light-hearted song, it’s one of the strongest parts of our live show. People just seem to connect with this song. This is a big point to writers and artists out there, especially myself, that sometimes intense gets the point across, but don’t forget to show ’em your sense of humor.
