USMTS kicks off Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region with May 15-16 doubleheader

The United States Modified Touring Series will kick off the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region presented by Day Motor Sports this week with two nights in the Land of 10,000 Lakes on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16.

Both shows will pay $3,000 to win and no less than $250 to start the main event.

On Friday, May 15, the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series powered by S&S Fishing & Rental travels to the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn., for the first time in the 17-year history of the USMTS.

The highly-anticipated inaugural event will also feature Midwest Mods, Super Stocks and Street Stocks on the high-banked 3/8-mile dirt oval with pits opening at 3 p.m., fan gates opening at 5:30 and racing at 7 p.m.

On race day, fans can find discount coupons good for $2 off adult grandstand admission at both Casey’s General Stores locations in Fergus Falls. To find the location nearest you, visit www.caseys.com.

The I-94 Speedway is located off of I-94 at exit 54, then 0.9 mile east on SR 210 to North Tower Rd., then 1.3 miles north to stop sign, then 0.6 mile west. For more information call 218-998-2191 or check out www.i94speedways.com on the World Wide Web.

The weekend wraps up Saturday, May 16, at the Ogilvie Raceway where the USMTS will be making a stop for the sixth time in five seasons.

No driver has been able to take more than one checkered flag at the semi-banked 3/8-mile dirt oval in Ogilvie, Minn.

On Aug. 17, 2011, Jason Hughes won the inaugural event and then Stormy Scott won a rain-delayed event from Aug. 15, 2012, on Sept. 8, along with Jeremy Payne who took the regularly-scheduled USMTS National Championship Series victory.

Jason Krohn got the job done in 2013 and Zack VanderBeek captured the win last August during the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup.

This Saturday’s blockbuster event will also feature Midwest Mods, Street Stocks and Hornets. Gates will open at 4 p.m. and the first green flag waves at 6:30. Adult tickets are $20, Seniors are $18 and youth ages 12 and under get in for free.

On race day, fans can find discount coupons good for $2 off adult grandstand admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Cambridge, Milaca and Princeton. To find the location nearest you, visit www.caseys.com.

The state-of-the-art track, which opened in 2009 and was sold earlier this year to the Wagamon family from Blaine, Minn., is located 2.0 miles east of Ogilvie on the south side of Highway 23. For more information call 763-267-4572 or check out their website at www.ogilvieraceway.com.

NOTE: The event originally scheduled for May 14 at the Rice Lake Speedway was canceled by the promoter on Tuesday due to an unfavorable forecast and likelihood for rain on Thursday.
