THE THANKSGIVING ANTHEM

The Thanksgiving Anthem

Well… Happy Thanksgiving, friends and neighbors!

Hard to believe, but it’s been a half a century since the birth of THE Thanksgiving anthem for the ages… I am of course talking about Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant”. It was Thanksgiving 1965 when Arlo visited his friend Alice, and the epic and surreal real-life saga unfolded that would become the song we all know in 1967.

It’s a hilarious song, and all the more remarkable because most of it is true. So, without further ado, here’s Arlo performing it live in 2005 at Farm Aid:

Rolling Stone recently published an interesting interview with Arlo Guthrie about the origins of the song and why he only performs it on it’s 10 year anniversaries:

As you gather with your friends and family this Thanksgiving and prepare to carve up that turkey, feel free to crank up those computer speakers and give a listen. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! See y’all next week! – Bobbo 🙂
