On this day in 1969, Johnny Cash’s album Johnny Cash At San Quentin was Certified Gold. The album was Cash’s 31st release and was the follow-up to his At Folsom Prison. The album was nominated for multiple Grammys, including Album of the Year and won Best Male Country Vocal Performance for “A Boy Named Sue.”

The album would be Certified Triple Platinum on by the RIAA in 2003.
