June 2nd: On This Day

On this day in 1999, Shania Twain’s album Come On Over was certified for shipments of 11 million copies, temporarily tying it with her own “The Woman In Me” as the best-selling country album by a female artist.

The album was Twain’s third studio album and hit #1 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums chart and #2 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The record has since become the best-selling country music album, the best-selling studio album by a female act, and the best-selling album by a Canadian. It is the sixth best-selling album in the United States ever.

Come on Over has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, 20 million of those copies were sold in the U.S., making the album Certified Double Diamond by the RIAA.
