QUALIFYING FOR STATE WRESTLING BEGINS

Qualifying for state wrestling begins

The journey to the state high school wrestling tournament has begun.  Several wrestlers advanced from Saturday’s (2/8) section meets to the district tournaments this coming Saturday (2/15).

Starting in Class 1A, North Mahaska wrestlers who advanced are Paul DeJong at 106 pounds, Michael DeJong at 120, Peter Stout at 126 and Trace Goemaat at 285.  From English Valleys/Tri-County, Tanner Mihal advanced at 132 and Cael Hester at 170.

Sigourney-Keota wrestlers who advanced are Mason Dye at 126, Jack Clarahan at 152, Nate Schuster at 160 and Aidan Schuster at 170.

Pekin is sending four wrestlers to the district meet: Bailey Frescoln at 132, Michael Jones at 138, Cael Baker at 145 and Mason Juhr at 220.

And Lynnville-Sully’s Ressse Dunsburgen advanced at 152 pounds.  Dunsburgen will wrestle at a district meet Saturday at Pleasantville.  The rest of the 1A wrestlers will compete at English Valleys.

Looking at Class 2A wrestling, Grinnell and PCM had several wrestlers advance from Saturday’s regional meet at Carlisle.  From Grinnell: Brock Beck at 126, Eli Rose at 145, Wyatt Hunter at 195 and Kamrin Steveson at 220.

From PCM: Landon Fenton at 132, Payton Drake at 138, Colby Tool at 152 and Jace Smith at 285.

At the Class 2A regional at Albia, several wrestlers moved on.  From Albia: Carter Anderson at 106, Dawson Bonnett at 113, Brodie Connor at 120, Michael Thomas at 138, Barrett Bonnett at 145 and Gavin Shaw at 170.

EBF wrestlers who advanced are: Cadyn Hall at 113, Hunter McFadden at 152, Sage Walker at 182 and Connor Reed at 195.

From Knoxville: Marco Alejo at 106, Luke Spaur at 120, Gabe Gordon at 126, Harvey Hatch at 132, Nash Linsley at 160 and Gavin Montalvo at 170.

And Chariton has two wrestlers advancing to the Districts: Jordan Mundy at 220 and Nicholas Wood at 285.  The Class 2A District meet will be this coming Saturday in Knoxville.

Oskaloosa will compete in the Class 3A District meet Saturday (2/15) at Des Moines East.
