Ottumwa Man Arrested for Kidnapping

OTTUMWA, IA — The Ottumwa Police have arrested a man for kidnapping after a woman reported that she had been held captive for several days.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, the Ottumwa Police Department took a missing person report for an adult female who we will only identify as A.H. It was reported to police that A.H. came to Ottumwa on March 9, to clean out her apartment and did not return home.

On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers located A.H. in the 400 Block of South Madison in Ottumwa and transported her to the Ottumwa Police Department. A.H. reported to police that she had been held captive for several days and was not free to leave. During this time A.H. was the victim of multiple physical assaults and had been sexually assaulted by one offender.

As a result of the investigation, Michael Steven Eastwood, age 43, of 710 Wabash Apt. 1, Ottumwa, was arrested and charged with Kidnapping in the 1 st Degree, a Class “A” Felony.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
