Oskaloosa Freshmen Help Oskaloosa Clean & Green Committee

Oskaloosa High School freshmen got to roll up their sleeves and clean alleys around downtown Oskaloosa Friday. The freshmen were helping the Oskaloosa Clean & Green Committee spruce up the community after a long winter. Clean & Green members hope the business owners also will pitch in to keep the alleys clean. High School social studies teacher Jeff Lorentzen coordinates
the students’ clean-up efforts. About 190 students — “the whole freshman class” — helps with Clean & Green, he said. “Some are working around the school and
the rest are downtown.” The students work during five, half-hour shifts to sweep and pick up any material that accumulates in downtown alleys. After students clean
the downtown, they will go to other areas that need cleaning such as South Market Street and the area around Wal-Mart, Lorentzen said.
