On This Day: Floyd Tillman is Born

Country superstar Floyd Tillman was born on this day in 1914. Tillman was an American country musician who, in the 1930s and 1940s, helped create the Western swing and honky tonk genres. Tillman was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1984. Tillman’s only #1 song as a singer was “They Took the Stars Out of Heaven” which reached the top of the charts in 1944.

Tillman was born December 8, 1914 and he passed away August 22, 2003.
