MONTEZUMA SHOOTS ITS WAY INTO BOY’S STATE BASKETBALL SEMI-FINALS

Montezuma has punched its ticket to the Class 1A Boys State Basketball Tournament semifinals, thanks to a 78-65 victory Monday (3/4) over Bishop Garrigan of Algona.  The Braves got 25 points and 6 assists from Sophomore Trey Shearer…and Braves Coach Derrick Dengler says the Braves also got plenty of hard defensive work from several players.

“I thought our guys really, really battled in there. We had some guys play with some really, really good energy that way.  Some guys who don’t score a ton of points for us–Eddie Burgess, Nolan Havran, Nolan Reynolds, Brayden Arendt.  Those guys just go out and play great defensive energy and they play their roles well, and they’re unselfish and they just battle, battle, do those little things.”
Montezuma improves to 22-1 on the season.  Next up for the Braves: two-time defending State 1A Champion Grand View Christian, who defeated St. Albert of Council Bluffs 58-51 on Monday.  The Montezuma/Grand View matchup tips off at 2pm Wednesday (3/6). KBOE-FM’s live coverage will start at 1:45pm.
