KNOXVILLE – Authorities are investigating an incident from Sunday morning in which the Marion County Sheriff’s Office says a man shot himself in their parking lot.
According to a press release, the incident occurred at around 7:40 AM on Sunday, July 19. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported that a vehicle entered their office parking lot in Knoxville and stopped near a fuel tank. The driver then stepped out of the vehicle, drew a firearm, and shot himself. No other people were in the vehicle with the driver, according to the release.
Jail staff immediately responded and located the male. Life saving measures were initiated until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene, and the man was later airlifted to a Des Moines hospital.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Knoxville Police Department are now investigating this incident, and authorities say that the man’s identity will not be released until family members are notified.
