MAN CHARGED IN ASSAULTING AND KILLING AN IOWA STATE GOLFER

Man charged in assaulting and killing an Iowa State golfer

Authorities have arrested a 22-year-old man they say murdered a former Iowa State University golfer Monday morning at an Ames golf course near campus.  Ames police Commander Geoff Huff said at a news conference that officers were called just before 10:30 a.m. to the Coldwater Links golf course in the 1400 block of South Grand Avenue on reports of a suspicious circumstance. Golfers told authorities they found a golf bag with no one around it on the course. Officers found the body of Celia Barquin Arozamena, an Iowa State University student originally from Puente San Miguel, Spain, “some distance away.”  Officials said Arozamena had been assaulted and died as a result, though circumstances leading up to her death weren’t immediately clear. Police arrested Collin Richards, and he was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Barquin Arozmena’s slaying.
