No changes for the Mahaska County Board leadership. At Thursday’s (1/2) organizational meeting, Mark Groenendyk was re-appointed chairman of the Board of Supervisors with Steve Wanders re-appointed vice-chairman. The Board tabled action on health insurance rates for the 2021 fiscal year budget, saying they needed to hold a work session to get more information. The Board did approve a change in the pay scale for county jail personnel. The new pay scale calls for jailers to get a starting salary of $34,500 for a six month probationary period. After six months, the salary would rise to $35,000, with annual increases of $1000 each year after that. Mahaska County Sheriff Russ Van Renterghem says the new pay scale will allow the County to keep good employees and cut down on turnover.
