Iowa Speedway and Knoxville Raceway Will Kick-Off The Lead Up To The Iowa Corn 300 June 22nd

IndyCar Series Drivers to Trade the Racing Capitol of the World for the Sprint Car Capital of the World. Verizon IndyCar Series’ Conor Daly, driver of the No. 18 Jonathan Byrd’s Hospitality car for Dale Coyne Racing and Verizon IndyCar Series’ Max Chilton, driver of the No. 8 Gallagher Chip Ganassi Racing car will enter the  Iowa Corn 300 on July 10th.

Iowa Speedway and Knoxville Raceway will kick-off the lead up to the Iowa Corn 300 with media members racing wheel-to-wheel against Iowa Speedway President Jimmy Small and INDYCAR’s brightest young wheelmen at Slideways Karting Center. Sprint car racing star – McKenna Haase – will also be a part of the action. She is the only female driver to win a feature race at Knoxville Raceway. Also taking to the track will be Davey Heskin, Knoxville Raceway 410 driver and 2015 “Most Popular Driver”. Several heats of racing in sprint car style go-karts will take place culminating in a championship race.

Iowa Corn is in its 10th year of partnership with “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet.” The renewed multi-year agreement continues the second longest entitlement sponsorship in INDYCAR racing.

Iowa Speedway serves as a platform to support the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and promote the benefits of renewable fuels grown in America. INDYCAR weekend at Iowa Speedway is a culmination of the nearly 40 years of hard work and dedication necessary to build the corn-based ethanol market and raises awareness about Iowa farmers’ ability to produce corn for their key trades – livestock, ethanol production and exports. The Verizon IndyCar Series is the premier open-wheel racing series in the United States. The 750 horsepower Verizon IndyCar Series cars feature a 2.2-liter, turbocharged, direct injected V-6 engine optimized to run 12,000 RPM and are powered by E85 fuel.

Daly and Chilton will visit central Iowa to promote the Verizon IndyCar Series Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway July 10 on 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 22nd at the Slideways Karting Center in Knoxville.

The schedule for the visit goes as followed:

10:45 a.m. – Drivers to meet with fans and media (All media coverage is preferred)

11:10 a.m. – First of two 8-lap heat races

11:30 a.m. – Start of the first of two 20-lap mains

Noon – Media Luncheon

12:45 p.m. – Drivers and Small available to media not in attendance earlier

1:10 – Depart for Des Moines

 

 

DRIVER NOTES:

Chilton:

  • Won the Indy Lights race at Iowa Speedway last year
  • Joins Chip Ganassi Racing for his rookie season in Verizon IndyCar Series competition after competing in Indy Lights in 2015
  • Fourth British driver in the last 25 years to move from Formula 1 full-time prior to joining the Verizon IndyCar Series in same capacity

Daly:

  • Son of former INDYCAR and Formula 1 driver Derek Daly
  • Joins Dale Coyne Racing for his first full season in Verizon IndyCar Series competition after climbing both the Mazda Road to Indy and European open-wheel ranks
  • Has tested an F1 car for Force India. Won at Barcelona in GP3 and was the inaugural MRF Challenge Series champion in India
