HEDRICK – A Hedrick woman faces multiple misdemeanor charges after a traffic stop resulted in law enforcement discovering drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun in her vehicle.
According to court records, on June 19 at approximately 2:12pm, a Keokuk County Sheriff’s deputy observed 21-year-old Marie Jackson of Hedrick at a gas station, and a records check of her vehicle showed that her Iowa driver’s license status was listed as non-valid, indicating that she possessed an Iowa identification card and not a valid driver’s license. Jackson left the gas station and a traffic stop was initiated, during which Jackson allegedly admitted that she was aware she did not have a valid driver’s license.
Court documents state that the deputy noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from Jackson’s vehicle during the traffic stop, and observed a glass bong on the rear seat. This led to a search of the vehicle, which revealed a bag of marijuana on the rear seat, as well as other drug paraphernalia and a handgun. Jackson allegedly admitted ownership of all of the items that were found.
Jackson was arrested following the incident and charged with Person Ineligible to Carry a Dangerous Weapon (serious misdemeanor), Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana, First Offense (serious misdemeanor), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). She was released after posting a $2,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 30.
