Grinnell Man Sentenced for Involvement in Construction Site Burglary

NEWTON – A Grinnell man received a prison sentence this week for his involvement in a construction site theft near Kellogg in November.

According to court documents, 58-year-old Charles Loudermilk was sentenced on Monday to two simultaneous 5-year prison terms after pleading guilty to 2nd Degree Theft (class C felony) and 1st Degree Criminal Mischief (class D felony).

The charges stemmed from an incident on November 15, 2025, when a motorist assist call led Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies to find a bulldozer and a pickup truck on the shoulder of Highway 6 East, facing the wrong way against traffic. Three males were at the scene, including Loudermilk. An investigation later revealed that the bulldozer had traveled from northeast of Newton on county roads and state highways, causing a significant amount of damage. Additionally, numerous items were found in the pickup truck that had been reported missing after a reported burglary at a construction site north of Kellogg. A search warrant was later executed at Loudermilk’s residence, where additional items listed as missing from the burglary were recovered, and loaded handguns were recovered from his pickup truck.

Loudermilk was also initially charged with two counts of Control of a Firearm as a Felon (class D felonies), but those charges were dismissed as part of his plea deal. His restitution hearing is scheduled for August 3.
