FAIRFIELD – A Winfield man was arrested in Fairfield on Friday after allegedly punching a police officer in the face as he was being apprehended for an active warrant for his arrest.
According to the Fairfield Police Department, the incident took place at approximately 5:31pm on Friday, July 3. Officers responded to the area of Waterworks Park in reference to a report of harassment, and they were assisted by deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officers were eventually able to locate a male subject nearby, who was identified as 33-year-old Bowe James Cook of Winfield. When officers made contact with Cook, they determined that he had an active felony warrant for his arrest. As they attempted to take Cook into custody, he reportedly resisted arrest and struck a Fairfield Police Department officer in the face.
Officers were then able to quickly subdue Cook and take him into custody; the officer who was struck in the face did not require medical treatment.
Cook was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and charged with Assault on a Peace Officer (serious misdemeanor) and Interference with Official Acts (simple misdemeanor). He was also served with his outstanding felony warrant.
